Is risking Drake Maye's health worth a single win for the struggling Patriots?

The Patriots’ six-game losing streak is finally snapped as they gave their fans something to cheer in New England. Winning 25-22 on Sunday against the Jets meant the Patriots could, at last, look ahead in their season. However, it didn’t come without sacrifices, as the team from Foxborough lost their rookie QB Drake Maye to a potential concussion.

Opening the clash, the Jets were toothless to Maye’s plays in Foxborough. As they found themselves going down 7 points early to his 17-yard rushing TD. He even picked up 46 yards on three scrambles before tragedy hit him on the head. Taking a helmet-to-helmet hit against the Jets LB Jamien Sherwood, Maye didn’t look like he could continue. Although he managed to get up, the Patriots’ third-overall pick eventually left the clash.

As everyone waited for an update on his concussion, the Patriots head coach, Jerod Mayo, spoke about the resilience Maye showed before getting ruled out. Offering us a 6-word update, Mayo said he wanted “to go back in the game.” However, concussion protocol didn’t allow the 22-year-old to play any further snaps on Sunday.

Although he couldn’t finish the game, Maye showed what he can do as the starting QB in Foxborough. But as he left the game, there were tensed heads in New England, as the Patriots could have ended up with a different result. However, it wasn’t that bad as former starting QB Jacoby Brissett took over the ship and sailed it in favor of New England.

And the QB that got hauled by the fans eventually helped the team break their six-game losing streak. While the Jets were left scratching their heads on Sunday.

Have an interesting take?

Before Drake Maye’s takeover at QB, it was quite evident that Jacoby Brissett hadn’t won over the fans. Under him, the Patriots didn’t look like they were going anywhere this season. However, history repeats itself in Foxborough, as Brissett was the one who confirmed the Patriots’ victory on the night. Well, two of those wins that the Patriots have this season had Brissett ending the game. Although you could argue about the statistics and performances, his veteran capabilities did come to work on Sunday.

After going for a pair of third-down completions within the fourth quarter to Hunter Henry and Tyquan Thornton. The Patriots were able to set themselves up for a field goal from the 23-yard line. And that brought the Patriots a 17-16 lead with only less than 8 minutes remaining on the clock. Although the Patriots were again trailing by 5 points thanks to an Aaron Rodgers TD pass. They managed to seal the game with only 22 seconds in New England as Rhamondre Stevenson landed the final blow in the end zone.

Brissett finished his Sunday having completed 15-of-24 passes for 132 yards. With Drake Maye serving the concussion protocol, will Brissett be able to handle the ship until the captain’s back? Well, we will find out as further updates on Maye’s injury are yet to be known.
