In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Eagles shared a clip from a special moment from day 2 of the NFL Draft. It was from when Howie Roseman called Cooper DeJean to give him the good news, “You’re a f**king Eagle.” After a brief chat with coach, Nick Sirianni, the 21-year-old was put in touch with the owner of the team, Jeffery Lurie.

That was when the owner told Cooper, “I didn’t immediately fall asleep last night because this is what I wanted to have happen tonight.” He continued by adding, “We were obsessed with getting you today.” With a compliment like that, it came as no surprise that the player stated after the draft, “If there was a game played today, I’d be ready to go.”

While the call ended up being “the call that changed it all” for the defensive back, the team’s excitement proved that they definitely had some intense plans in store. After all, with the team ending up at number 31 in passing yards and touchdowns last year, an upgrade seems to be crucial.
How DeJean can be utilized by the Eagles
From the moment the Eagles traded up to pick No. 40 to snag Cooper DeJean out of Iowa, the team ensured he knew what he was bringing to the table. It was his versatility. With the 21-year-old taking on the role of cornerback, safety, and even the nickel when needed, bringing him in ensured that the team had a jack of all trades. However, they will be positioning him as a defensive back at the time being.

While coach Nick Sirianni’s plans for DeJean have not been revealed yet, there is no doubt that the talented star is down for it all. In fact, in a Zoom interview after the draft, he stated, “I don’t have a preference. I’m a football player. So you put me on the field, I’m going to go play football. Whether it’s inside, outside, at safety, wherever it is.”
With a mentality like that, it makes sense why the Eagles were so dead set on having him on their team. After all, not only was he a popular mock draft pick for the team, but he also added a new level of passion to the game.
