It’s probably the time for Philly to see a lot of changes upcoming! In 1994, Jeffrey Lurie, a film producer, bought the Philadelphia Eagles for about $185 million. Now that the team is playing at their arguably high level, reaching the Super Bowl twice in four years, Lurie might be on a look to expand his investments.
Senior NFL writer Ben Volin, based in Boston, shared a statement from Jeffrey Lurie regarding the rumors of his interest in buying the Celtics. The owner said, “I would never say never, but I’m not looking to own another sports franchise. The Celtics again are exceptional, they’re so well run, they’re so talented, it’s my childhood team. However, I do not expect that to happen.”
This statement came from him during Super Bowl Opening Night in New Orleans, just days before the final battle. It seems Jeffrey Lurie isn’t entirely sure about buying the Celtics, but he is definitely interested in purchasing another sports franchise. So, will it be the Boston Celtics?

Till now, no official news has been revealed yet. In addition, Jeffrey Lurie’s statements that he never thought about buying the Celtics have somewhat debunked the rumors. Apart from this, it’s still under doubt whether the current owners, a group led by Wyc Grousbeck, of the $6 billion Celtics, will be interested in the offer or not.
Until then, Jeffrey Lurie is probably focused on building Philly’s Lincoln Financial Field, after his team made it into the Super Bowl this year.
Will Jeffrey Lurie build a dome for the Eagles?

Jeffrey Lurie doesn’t have a strong stance on domed stadiums, but he sees the appeal. Speaking at Super Bowl 59 Media Night, the Eagles owner acknowledged that a roof could bring huge events like the Super Bowl and NCAA Final Four to Philadelphia. The Eagles’s current home, Lincoln Financial Field, has a lease running through 2032. Opened in 2003, it will probably need major renovations or a brand-new replacement for the line. While Lurie loves outdoor football–cold, hot, and even snow games–he knows Philadelphia deserves to host marquee events.
That’s why when the reporters asked him about it, Jeffrey Lurie stated, “I don’t have a strong opinion about it….Philadelphia deserves to host the Super Bowl, NCAA Final Four, and lots of great events. It’s an incredible sports city. Does it deserve it? Yes. So we have to balance all those things.” As per reporter Eliot Shorr-Parks, “Jeffrey Lurie….(said) Philly deserves to hold the biggest sporting events in the world…. (So,) My opinion on his answer: He’ll build a dome.” Indeed, to host big events, a domed or retractable-roof stadium would make it possible while also attracting concerts and year-round entertainment.

But there’s a catch. Although the Eagles control the stadium, the city owns it. That means any future decision will require careful planning and negotiation. But as for Jeffrey Lurie, yes, he might bring some positive changes to the Lincoln Financial Field.
