Jayden Daniels wins ESPY's Best College Athlete—Is he the next big thing in the NFL?

Even before the NFL Draft of 2024, QB Jayden Daniels has been making headlines. After his impressive LSU career, where he “completed 72% of his passes for 3,812 yards, with 40 touchdowns and only four interceptions,” he has been still getting awards for it. This time too, even before his NFL journey has begun, Washington Commanders’ new QB is surely making waves.

Heading into Thursday’s ESPYS night, Daniels won the “Best College Athlete Award” at ESPYS on July 11, 2024, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The Commanders shared the news with pride for their rookie QB on their official X account. It said, “Another award for the mantle 🏆@JayD__5 is the @ESPYS winner for Best Men’s Collegiate Athlete.”

The rookie quarterback also shared his latest look for the event, where he can be seen donning his classy personality in a stylish black suit. Interestingly, Daniels has been collecting his awards for his LSU performance again and again.

This new “2023 Best Male College Athlete Award” came after his last year’s Heisman trophy at LSU, in December. There he had a passer rating of 208.01, arguably the best till now. He also rushed for 1,134 yards and 10 TDs. Additionally, for his performance in LSU University, the 23-year-old has already won “Walter Camp Award, AP College Football Player of the Year, Sporting News College Football Player of the Year, Davey O’Brien Award, Manning Award, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and SEC Offensive Player of the Year.”

Now that he is with the Commanders, many believe that the offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury and rookie QB Daniels’ marriage can yield immediate results for the team.

Washington took a major step towards a new future by selecting Jayden Daniels with the second overall pick in the NFL Draft. Despite initial doubts about his willingness to play on the East Coast, Daniels was thrilled to join the Commanders, expressing his excitement about fulfilling his childhood dream. He aims to secure the starting position under offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, who is known for his quick-release, and vertical attack style.

One source even described their partnership as “gasoline on a fire,” predicting a strong start for Washington’s revamped offense. This rookie QB brings a unique dual-threat capability, challenging defenses with both his passing and running skills. Additionally, his “4.5 speed and elite elusiveness” make him a formidable playmaker on the gridiron.

As Daniels “want to go out and compete and help the team win football games”….as well as is “willing to work and put everything out there on the line,” the Commanders can expect a boost in their 2024 season.
