Is Jayden Daniels' injury a minor setback, or a major blow to the Commanders' playoff hopes?

Commanders were cruising until their main man got injured. It was the week 11 game against the Eagles at the Lincoln Financial Field. Though the Commanders lost the game, there was a much bigger loss for them as Jayden Daniels got injured. With a 7-4 win-loss record, the team is still in a safe zone, but the rookie has to stay fit for them to have a real chance at the trophy.

He suffered a cut between his pinky and ring finger and it was bleeding so profusely that the medical team had to put superglue to the wound. While the rookie QB didn’t tell how he suffered the injury, he did say, “I’m straight. Just got a little cut.” He also revealed his mini-bye week plans, which included watching football.

An interesting phenomenon happened during the 18-26 loss against the Eagles. Jayden Daniels had problems in throwing long passes. The rookie did fine in the game, with 22 of 32 passes (69% completion rate) in 191 passing yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. But it also raised doubts about the rib injury.

In the post-game presser, HC Dan Quinn defended his signal-caller and said that the QB has improved. He only struggled in the week 8 game against the Chicago Bears after suffering it in week 7 against the Panthers. However, the fans asserted that there were some underlying issues regarding fitness.

The quarterback has to get fit in the next 10 days before their next divisional battle.

Will Jayden Daniels avenge their defeat?

Out of the next 6 games, the Commanders will play their NFC East divisional rivals in 3 games. On November 24, they would play against the Cowboys. Hence, the rookie will have his chance to avenge the defeat in week 16 against the Eagles. But it wouldn’t be easy.

The primary cause of concern will be to win the next few games. Sitting in the 2nd position in their division and 7th in their conference, they are in the wild card group, but the target is very clear. Topple the Eagles from the top spot and sit there. But that ain’t easy.

Jayden Daniels has emerged as one of the best QBs, not only among the rookies but the veterans. But the contest is still going on. Former Super Bowl-winning HC Jon Gruden recently joined the Barstool Sports and during the live stream of Eagles vs Commanders, he claimed that Drake Maye would be better than Daniels. That’s hard to understand.

Maye has won 2 out of 5 games with 7 touchdowns and 5 interceptions, while Daniels has 7 wins in 10 games with 9 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. There’s only one way to stop these comparisons. Win the games. Winning silences all and can even turn your critics into your supporters.
