Jayden Daniels as the 'KD of College Football'—Is Durant's praise spot on or over the top?

Jayden Daniels has earned his good graces within the sporting world. He produced impressive results with the LSU, notably throwing 40 touchdowns and rushing well over 1000 yards. Subsequently, NBA star Kevin Durant raved about the Washington Commanders first-round pick.

Daniels pocketed the franchise’s QB position in the 2024 NFL draft after making waves in his rookie season. His performance further helped him lift the 2023-2024 Roy F. Kramer Male Athlete of the Year. Naturally, his rising pile of accolades prompted a response from the Phoenix Suns star.

Durant revealed that he sent a text to the franchise’s owner Magic Johnson, extending his support for their latest pick. The power forward highlighted the incident during his appearance on Kay Adam’s show, ‘Up and Adams’. He labeled Daniels the “KD of college football” while reminiscing about the QB playing college football. “I might’ve shot a couple texts out there [to Johnson]. I was a fan of the Heisman winner this past year. It feels like he’s the KD of college football last year with his body type.”

The 35-year-old voiced his enthusiasm to witness the young pro in action this season. To much delight, with Daniels tuning in, he hoped for a better future for the franchise. “Hopefully, he brings the same enthusiasm for the game to Washington. Everybody’s rallying around him, it feels like we got a player who can take us somewhere now.”

However, there was a time when the quarterback wasn’t fully privy to such compliments. A handful of league teams, including the likes of the New York Giants, weren’t exactly content with what he offered.

While the quarterback has seemingly gained a good grip within the NFL world, his team selection era landed into troubled waters. According to reports, the Giants may have decided to pass on the 23-year-old pro. During an episode on the ‘Hard Knocks: Offseason with the New York Giants’, the show presents an interview where the quarterback seemingly couldn’t satisfy the team at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine.

The episode features the franchise’s head coach Brian Daboll who grills Daniels by putting him to the test. He narrates a complicated play for the QB to script and later recite. Subsequently, it was observed that the young pro couldn’t narrate the play properly- notably forgetting the pass protection.
