“This is as big a risk as you can take.” Jerry Jones put his stake this time on Brian Schottenheimer, the Dallas Cowboys’s new head coach. In fact, a first-time head coach, who is familiar with all three phases of the game — offense, defense, and special teams. As Jones has already stated his risk factor, he ensured his confidence in HC is also visible to the NFL audience. But is it so?
Well, owner Jerry Jones has confirmed his belief in Brian Schottenheimer after Mike McCarthy’s exit. But, a new coach, eyeing the HC role in Dallas, finally opened up about his interest in the team.
According to DLLS Cowboys on X, Jason Witten said he “Didn’t talk to Jerry Jones about this most recent Cowboys coaching job. I think they went through a thorough process for them and got to a place where they felt like Brian [Schottenheimer] was the guy. I never worked with Brian or any of that, but I’ll always pull for the Cowboys.”

When the Cowboys were hunting for their new head coach, Jason Witten’s name too came up as a potential candidate. At that time, it didn’t matter that he did not have any coaching experience above the high school level. It’s probably because Witten has played with the team for about 16 seasons during his NFL career. However, now that Jerry Jones finished his search work, Witten has shown a sudden interest in the role. He expressed his dreams of becoming the head coach for Dallas somewhere in the future, saying, “Sure, it’s a part of my long-term goals.”
But what about right now? He’s living something just as special – Coaching his son, winning back-to-back state championships, and creating moments as the head coach at Liberty Christian School in Argyle, Texas – something that will stay with him forever.
So, what about his Cowboys’s dream? Well, that chapter will come when the time is right. This is evident in his concluding statement, “When that right time and the right opportunity comes, I’m excited to embark on that next chapter.” Until then, America’s team’s new HC, Brian Schottenheimer, gets ready for the upcoming season.
Jerry Jones’s team is building an impressive staff for 2025
The Cowboys are turning the page to a new chapter. Jerry Jones’s new HC, Brian Schottenheimer, is in charge. And he’s building a staff designed to shake things up. And do you know what? The team’s direction hasn’t been this clear in years. So, now, it’s all about execution. The front office locked in Will McClay for another five years, ensuring stability at the top. On offense, Schottenheimer is blending NFL experience with top college talent.

Klayton Adams, Derrick Foster, and Conor Riley are set to rebuild the run game. Junior Adams and Tiquan Underwood will sharpen the wide receivers behind CeeDee Lamb. And then there’s Ken Dorsey, a passing game specialist who’s worked with stars like Josh Allen and Cam Newton.

On defense, Matt Eberflus returns, bringing familiar faces with him. He’s here to fix the Jerry Jones Cowboys’s biggest weakness – run defense. Aaron Whitecotton, Bryan Bing, and Dave Borgonzi will help him get it done. And in special teams, let us tell you that’s a big shake-up. Nick Sorensen takes over, coming straight from San Francisco. If anyone understands how to crack the 49ers’ code, it’s him.
So, all in all, the foundation is set. The blueprint is clear. Now, it’s time to bring in the right players to fuel this team. It depends on how Jerry Jones wants it now.
