Former Pats HC, Bill Belichick, made his media debut during the 2024 NFL draft. He joined “The Pat McAfee Show Draft Spectacular” on ESPN’s streaming platforms. Bill talked about various things, including the Patriots’ trade for Randy Moss in 2007 and the efforts and patience it required to make it happen.

His debut has received various reactions from players. Jason Kelce and Travis Kelce showed a positive reaction by praising Bill in their New Heights podcast despite Jason Kelce’s broadcast being preferred more by the audience.

Jason said in the conversation, “We got our first look at Nick Saban and Bill Belichick doing a little draft coverage this year. What you think? It was surreal seeing those guys up there.” Travis Kelce echoed his brother’s sentiments by admiring Belichick and Saban’s intellect and expertise. He noted the engaging nature of their commentary and the respect he holds for both coaches. Jason further remarked, “Yeah, didn’t disappoint, coverage was great. The picks were, I mean it was. Even though he faced some network issues initially, Belichick expressed his anticipation for the event and shared crucial insights into draft strategies and trade negotiations. With years of experience and numerous trades under his belt, the former HC has won many hearts with his debut, but still TV networks prefer Jason Kelce over Bill Belichick as an NFL analyst.

Jason Kelce vs. Belichick

I think it’s more likely Kelce ends up on a [pregame show] desk than Belichick. First off, he’s kind of all-in with the podcast that he has with his brother. And I just think long term, he looks likes somebody who could do it,said Andrew Marchand from The Athletic. Marchand added that the issue with Belichick is that he probably wants to coach again. He further added that it’s confusing to gauge what Belichick wants.

Despite the uncertainties, Belichick’s reputation for preparation and attention to detail makes him a coveted figure on TV. Jonathan Jones from CBS Sports suggests that Belichick’s analytical approach could upgrade media coverage.

Although Belichick is exploring media opportunities, reports suggest that he may not be out of football for long. Per Tom Pelissero, there’s an expectation within the NFL community that Belichick will return to coaching by 2025. As the 2024 season approaches, it remains to be seen how these transitions will occur and the impact they will have on the media.
