ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo both reported the news that Kelce, who spent his entire NFL career at the Eagles is calling it a day. Kelce hasn’t made an official announcement yet but could look to address his fans in the more comfortable settings of his podcast alongside his brother. Last year also, Jason Kelce talked to his brother about how much time he has left to give on the field.
Kelce had said, “If I’m being honest my body is starting to fall apart. It’s my 12th year. I couldn’t even do training camp this year. I got surgery in the middle of it… Every joint in my body could use a clean up. I think my body is definitely starting to tell me some things.” That season Jason Kelce lost the Super Bowl LVII against his younger brother’s Kansas City Chiefs. He was then undecided about a return until Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni sent him a couple of kegs of beer and Jason Kelce announced his return. But it looks this time Sirianni may have to come to terms with his star player’s exit.
After the game, when asked about the prospects of losing his star center Sirianni said, “I love him. Yeah, obviously, we’re not there at that position yet – ready to talk about that, but he’s special and I love him. He’s one of the most special guys I’ve been around.” Philly QB Jalen Hurts also paid tribute to Jason Kelce.
Hurts told the reporters, “He’s a legend in the city. Really in the league. I don’t want to do a disservice to him and the things he’s been able to do and overcome. His journey to where he is now didn’t come easy. It’s been a long, long time coming for him, and every year since I’ve been here, it’s been, ‘Are you going to come back?’ But he knows how much I love and appreciate him. He knows how much I’ve learned from him. He’ll forever have a special place in my heart.”
Ever since been picked in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL draft by Eagles, Kelce dominated on the gridiron. The biggest moment of Jason Kelce’s career came when he started for the Eagles in Super Bowl LII, as Philadelphia defeated New England, 41-33 to win the title. This remains the franchise’s only Super Bowl triumph to date. He now bids adieu to the gridiron after a stellar career But with the podcast on the horizon, with his brother Travis Kelce by his side, the fans will hope to hear from the 36-year-old on the matter.
