When Caleb Williams came into the league, everyone was hoping he would do wonders for the Bears. But the situation has flipped on them. After week 14, they are out of playoffs with a 4-9 record. The week 15 matchup against the Vikings was no exception to their poor run this year.

At halftime, the Vikings led 13-0. The Bears were struggling to keep the ball, which forced the Super Bowl winner and MNF analyst, Jason Kelce, to use some choice words for the franchise. During the halftime show, he said, “Chicago has to prove that they belong in the NFL.” That’s a very strong remark that would ring in the ears of Bears fans for many more years to come.

He isn’t wrong there. The franchise has not qualified for the playoffs since 2020. The injuries to key players like LT Braxton Jones and RT Darnell Wright have lessened the strength. Caleb Williams is under pressure to perform and win games in his rookie season.

In 13 games this year, he has 270 of 434 passes (62% completion rate) in 2746 yards with 16 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. But their O-line has not performed. Pro Football Network ranked them 21st in the league before the week 15 games. Hence, during the offseason, the Bears would be eyeing major shuffling to boost the locker room.

After losing the week 13 game against the Lions, they fired their HC Matt Eberflus and replaced him with OC Thomas Brown. But his job looks in danger as well.

Bears looking for an offensive-minded head coach for Caleb Williams

On the December 16 episode of the Monday Night Football pregame show, ESPN insider Adam Schefter revealed, “They’re going to go on a search to find a partner for Caleb Williams because he becomes the most important asset that they have right now to sell to a coach. So, you have to figure that they’re going to want to get some type of offensive-minded head coach that can get the best out of Caleb Williams and develop him to the fullest potential.” That’s surprising.

Though the insider further added that the GM Ryan Poles would be there at the franchise. He would help them find the new coach. However, things need to be assessed in depth here. They would look to go back to the bye week as the team lost 7 straight games after that.
