It wasn’t a “happy” New Year over in Philly! The Philadelphia Eagles were coming out of a three-game losing streak on Christmas Day. And then they snapped it when they took on the New York Giants. But ahead of 2024, disaster struck again. They lost to the Arizona Cardinals, which have consistently been in the bottom five of the league. Now they have just one game left before the regular season wraps up. How are the team’s preparations going?
The Eagles Press Conferences YouTube channel recently posted a video. In the video, the reporters talked to various players in the locker room. They gauged their feelings about the team’s performance so far.
What was Jason Kelce’s response?

The reporter had asked OT Jordan Mailata about his feelings prior to Jason. He had said that he could sense something was different in the air. Then he moved on to Jason and asked him if he felt the “swag coming back to this team“. What was the Center’s reply? If you’ve watched an episode of the New Heights podcast, it’s clear that Kelce is more talkative than even his more popular sibling, Travis Kelce. But here he only said, “I’m not going to say anything like that.”
He said that rather than talking, he wants to just focus on the game and “play football“. Was it an indication that things are still not right in the Eagles team? Philadelphia has managed to clinch a Wild Card playoff berth. But the game against their divisional rivals, the Giants will determine the morale with which they will enter the playoffs. Are they prepared for the game?
The Eagles have the upper hand
Jason was next asked about the preparedness of the team. Was his response again monosyllabic like the last one? Not really! Jason Kelce replied that he was “very much focussed on the now, not the future”. Prior to the New Year’s heartbreak, the Giants faced a 33-25 blowout loss. That inspired confidence in the team. But then they lost to a team like the Cardinals which raised doubts again.

With only wideout DeVonta Smith listed as “DNP” for the Thursday practice, it seems that the team, as a whole, is comparatively healthy. The Giants, on the other hand, had two non-participants while five were nursing injuries. Does that spell disaster for the squad?

The Giants last made it to the playoffs in 2016 and currently, their defense is not in good shape. It doesn’t look like their offense which ranks first from the bottom will be able to match up to the Eagles’ number 8 offense. But can the Giants pull off a surprise victory like the Cardinals?
