The future looks uncertain for Broncos Country. Earlier this week, the Broncos had benched veteran quarterback Russell Wilson, in favor of backup QB Jarrett Stidham. Even though the Broncos had a rough start this season, they managed to get back on track midway through the season. But then they lost to the New England Patriots, the team that is last in the AFC. That seemed to be the final nail in the coffin.

Ever since the world got wind that Stidham would be starting in the Los Angeles Chargers game, we haven’t heard from him. But recently he opened up about how he felt starting for the Broncos.

Jarrett Stidham opens up about his future game

When asked about how he felt replacing Russell Wilson and what his strategy would be going forward, Stidham said, “I don’t think I need to overthink it.” He said that his strategy would be to do exactly what he was coached to do by HC Sean Payton. Stidham placed his trust in his coaching staff and his teammates and called them “great“. Promising to give it his all, he said, “Hopefully score a lot of points and get a win.”

As Stidham prepares for the Chargers, Wilson’s future looks uncertain. Ian Rapoport said that the main reason why Wilson was being benched was not his performance but due to a contract clause. According to the injury clause in his contract, if he injured himself this season, his $37 million salary for 2025 would become vested. And the Broncos want to avoid that at all costs. He also reported that it’s possible that the team might cut him the following year.

Besides, this would not be the first time Stidham is replacing a benched quarterback who was cut the very next year.

Stidham replaced Carr who was cut the following year

The 27-year-old was in an eerily situation last year when he was playing for the Las Vegas Raiders. Following a contract dispute, the team benched QB Derek Carr towards the fag end of the season and assigned Stidham the role of starting QB. Then, in the following offseason, the team released him.

In the two games that he played for the Raiders in 2022, he registered 584 passing yards and four touchdowns but also threw three interceptions. Now, as he seeks to begin afresh with his new team, he will face the Broncos’ divisional rivals, the Chargers. Thankfully for Stidham, they have the third-worst passing defense in the NFL.

“I’ve always had a lot of confidence in myself,” Stidham said ahead of the game. Fans are hoping that he will be able to rekindle the lost spark in the Broncos’ offense and put the last two games of the season in Denver’s bags.
