The Eagles drafted CB Cooper DeJean out of Iowa to bolster the back end of their defense. DeJean, a projected first-rounder, fell to the Eagles at 40 and could be the steal of the draft. After a disappointing finish to last season, the Iggles are strengthening themselves with hopes of competing with conference rivals, the Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers.
DeJean appeared in an exclusive interview with EssentiallySports and talked about how he landed with the Eagles and what inspired him to do so. The CB also spoke about his inspirations and how he plans to fit himself in the big leagues in the upcoming season.

We asked DeJean whether he looks up to anyone in the league. He told EssentiallySports how his experience with his Iowa peers influenced his approach to entering the draft. The Eagles’ CB mentioned how the Detroit linebacker Jack Campbell and tight end Sam LaPorta have greatly influenced his career.
“Yeah, I watched Simon Matthew a lot. There are also guys I’ve played with at Iowa who are Sam LaPorta, Jack Campbell, those guys,” said DeJean. He further added, “So just seeing those guys do their thing, uh, kind of almost gives me that confidence you know that I can go in there and try to make an impact.”
But that’s not all. We also asked the 2× First-team All-Big Ten, “Have those guys given you anything in like the draft process? Do you like to go to them for stuff?” The former Iowa CB mentioned that he sought help from his former peers at some point before declaring the draft.
“Yeah, I’ve talked to them a little bit about the whole process, you know kind of what to expect, how to go about it,” said the CB and elaborated, “I’ve also talked to them about how things have been going with them, what kind of to expect when you get to the team.”

Cooper DeJean has put up amazing numbers in college and Jared Goff’s favorite TE’s guidance has helped him to transition to the NFL. If not, DeJean would have spent one more year in college and enjoyed the benefits from his NIL deals, among other monetary benefits, while staying in Iowa.
How does the rookie manage to stay slick after a hard day at work?
DeJean, like most rookie players, is no stranger to sponsorships. And this time around, it’s with Head & Shoulders. We asked DeJean, “You are here with Head & Shoulders doing this campaign and kind of being a part of the whole in-person draft experience. Can you talk a little bit about that?” DeJean was as modest and honest as could be in a hilarious response.

“Head & Shoulders is a really good partner. You know, they’ve uh, it’s helped me a lot, helped my hair, helped keep the dandruff out of my hair,” said DeJean and added, “Especially being a football player you know you’re wearing a helmet all the time. Your hair gets matted down, all sweaty and stuff, you know. So, it’s good to have Head & Shoulders to rely on, keep my hair clean and fresh.”
DeJean added how he liked Patrick Mahomes and Troy Polamalu’s version of head and shoulders too much. He further emphasised that he’s ready for his NFL career and can’t wait to gel with his teammates. Hopefully, this is the boost that the Philadelphia Eagles need after they ended their season on an 11-6 note.
