The Philadelphia Eagles had their 53rd overall pick in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft locked in the form of QB Jalen Hurts. Making his switch from college football, Hurts got his first taste of pro football at the Eagles. From a lackluster rookie season to a breakout year in 2022, Hurts was integral in guiding the Eagles to the runners-up spot in Super Bowl LVII.
Having earned his first Pro Bowler and second-team All-Pro accolade, many of them might have underestimated the legacy Hurts left behind during his high school and college career. Completing his primaries from Channelview High School, the Eagles QB had his father, Averion, by his side to coach him throughout his stay in Houston. With a second-team all-district selection in his sophomore year, Hurts racked up 2,384 yards while adding 26 TD passes.
Well, football wasn’t the only thing where Hurts excelled, as powerlifting was one of his many talents. Having qualified as a finalist in the 198-pound weight class, Hurts showed the raw strength he possessed. Soon, Texas A&M came knocking on his doors. But Hurts was swift in rejecting that idea while moving on to sign for Alabama.

During his three years with Alabama, Hurts went through a roller coaster of a time. In his first season, he helped Alabama to reach the College Football Playoffs while boasting a 26-2 record as a starter. Following up on his first year and clinching another playoff berth, Hurts suddenly found himself being benched in place of Tagovailoa in 2017.
But that wasn’t the end of his struggles, as Hurts lost his starting gimmick, thereby putting a dent in his time playing for Alabama. Closing his Alabama chapter, Jalen Hurts signed for Oklahoma, where he recorded 12-2 as a starter. With 3,851 passing yards and 32 TDs in his name, Hurts ended up agonizingly close to the Heismann Trophy that Joe Burrow took home at that time.
Although the next year, Hurts was picked up by the Eagles, his time in Philadelphia has been impressive. Set to play his fourth year at the top of the football pyramid, the expectations are higher than ever.

Jalen Hurts time at the Eagles
From the moment former Eagles OC Shane Steichen vacated his position at the club, Hurts hasn’t had the right relationship with Nick Sirianni. Playing under his third OC at the Eagles, Hurts posted sensational numbers last season. With 3,858 passing yards and 23 TD passes, Hurts and the Eagles had a strong start to their season with a 10-1 record. However, it soon turned into a nightmare as the Eagles went on to lose their last six games of the seven while ending their season against Tampa Bay in the NFL Wild card game.

From that moment, as called by Tim McManus of ESPN, Hurts had a ‘prolonged strain’ with Sirianni that was almost beyond repair. It became more evident when Hurts was found to share his thoughts about possible change to the offense, “Um, I mean, that’s a great question, I don’t know that I know the answer to it.”

But as recorded on the last episode of the Scoop City podcast, a positive update might have come through the Eagles nation. As called by Dianna Russini of the Athletic, the Eagles QB’s relationship with Sirianni has really improved. The two might also be getting on the same page in a crucial season beginning in Brazil.
However, it remains to be seen whether the Eagles QB can continue on his performances last season while avoiding the collapse that derailed their ambitions. As fans, we can just wait for it to be discovered while hoping for the new season to bring lots of excitement starting in Sau Paulo.
