The Philly fans demanded, and Jalen Hurts and his troops delivered at the Lincoln Financial Field. The 27-13 win against the Pittsburgh Steelers might be enough to shut the naysayers. Hurts put the notion of lack of a “passing game” to rest on Sunday night. AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith took issues with the Eagles’ offense, but they might be content for a little while.

After coming up with a 290-yard and two-touchdown performance, Hurts sat down in front of the media without a care in this world. “So that’s what y’all wanted to see, huh?” Hurts said as he took the seat. However, playing against the Steelers gets really dirty, real quick. That, combined with his pre-existing broken finger, made things more complicated.

The Eagles are now 12-2, but they might face issues going forward. Even though Hurts is in trouble, he’s not breaking a sweat and is nonchalant about his injury. In fact, his reaction might have been a little too nonchalant for people’s taste. “If it’s shattered it’s shattered,” Hurts said about his injury in the post-game, as reported by Eliot Shorr-Parks of 94 WIP.

It’s astonishing how the Jalen Hurts and his Eagles slipped away from a defense as strong as the Pittsburgh Steelers. But that’s not what this story is about. It’s about Jalen Hurts laying the rumors to rest. There wasn’t a beef between AJ Brown and Jalen Hurts to start with. However, even if there was, they did a heck of a job of solving it amicably.

Brown caught 8 of 11 passes intended for him, pocketed 110 yards, and a first-quarter TD. The receivers 5-yard TD closed the first quarter and DeVonta Smith opened the Q2 with a bang, scoring another TD off Hurts’s 2-yard pass. That’s not all, Hurts also scored a rushing TD in the opening of the last quarter, reaching the final score of 27-13.

Jalen Hurts' nonchalance about his injury—confidence or reckless disregard for his future?

Also, kudos to the Eagles defense for keeping Russell Wilson at bay. Vic Fangio’s schemes held Russell Wilson to 128 yards and a lone touchdown on a 9-yard pass to Pat Freiermuth. Chris Boswell, their kicker, was responsible for putting up 7 points on the board. But you know what’s bothersome about the whole situation? Jalen Hurts’ broken finger.

Jalen Hurts’s unlucky fingers

Do you remember the last regular season game of the 2023 season against the Giants? The Eagles lost that game 27-10 and Hurts dislocated his right middle finger when Hurts hit his hands on a Giants pass-rusher. That caused some serious problems in the wildcard game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which resulted in a 32-9 Philly loss.

But this time it’s different. Hurts has already been on the injury report heading into the game. He showed up with a split on his left ring finger entering the Lincoln Financial Field. Hurts didn’t say how the injury came to be in the first place. We just know that it happened in last week’s game against the Carolina Panthers. But safe to say that’s it’s not even a minor setback for the QB.

What’s concerning is that the QB admitted that the injury to his non-throwing hand “did impact my play.” Again, as we mentioned earlier, Hurts is laid back about the whole ordeal. “It is what it is,” Hurts said in the post-game. “I’ve known it’s at the stage it’s at all week and I don’t really want to put too much more into it. I can say I don’t think it got any worse today. If it’s shattered, it’s shattered. It is what it is.”

But you know what? He persevered through it and became the fifth QB in the league to have three winning streaks of 10+ games in his career. He joined Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and John Elway in doing so. Let’s see if he can still maintain the chill guy persona in the next duel against the Commanders as the Eagles have pressure to improve the 12-2 record.
