Surprises on the gridiron might be over, but with the onset of the offseason, it’s only going to be more intriguing. With all 32 franchises planning where to improve before the draft came along, the Steelers were thinking about something audacious. Let’s just say something like the Luka Doncic trade. On Thursday morning, Big 10 network’s Ryan Burr tweeted something that caught the whole NFL by surprise. But within a few hours of that astonishing tweet, everything came back to square one like it was before Burr stirred the Internet.
Burr basically said he heard “from the horse’s mouth in the Jags organization” that the Steelers have inquired about a possible trade for Trevor Lawrence. This could have been a blockbuster move for which the Steelers had to send at least a slew of first and second-round picks to acquire Trevor Lawrence. However, it didn’t take long for Jags ESPN beat reporter Michael DiRocco to spill cold into the idea of Jacksonville letting their former No.1 overall move on.
DiRocco refuted everything that Burr claimed, tweeting, ” A Jaguars source said there’s no chance they’ll trade Lawrence and called the idea ridiculous.” This seems more like an apt response. Considering what the Jags are trying to do with their $275M QB. They went above and beyond to bring Liam Coen from Tampa Bay and made him their head coach. After the magic he did with Baker Mayfield this season, Coen said in his introductory press conference, “This will all be about Trevor right now.”

Regarding recent report that Steelers have inquired about a trade for Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence, a Jaguars source said there’s “no chance” they’ll trade Lawrence and called the idea “ridiculous.”

Even Jags owner Shahid Khan also echoed Coen’s sentiments within the same presser, adding, “Our commitment to Trevor. I think is well-known. We believe in him. So we started with that.” Leaving aside their comments for a second. Moving on from Lawrence is never really an option on the paper. Jacksonville will take a dead money cap hit of $100M if they really trade Lawrence to the Steelers. Maybe this move was never really a possible scenario, and all they did was just inquire about Trevor Lawrence’s situation in Duval. Because from where they stand in their QB room, conflicting reports are nothing new for them.

Russell Wilson left in the dark with conflicting reports on his future
Time and time again, Wilson has spoken about his desire to continue playing in black and gold. After his horror tenure with the Broncos, Wilson found some love and respect playing for the Steelers. His time in Pittsburgh earned him his 10th Pro Bowl accolade. However, going 6-5 as a starter and losing 5 in a row to end the season has somewhat degraded the value of Wilson. So, considering everything that happened with the Steelers failing to go deep into the playoffs. It seems the Steelers have had enough of Russ, as per NFL insider Jay Glazer. Speaking on the NBC Fantasy Football Happy Hour, Glazer said, “I think you’ll see a new start for Russell somewhere.” And Glazer, who remains close to Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, isn’t the only one who spoke about Russ not wearing black and gold ever again.
Even The Athletic’s Dianna Russini also echoed similar sentiments about Wilson’s future in Pittsburgh: “I’m hearing the same thing. Those conversations started to happen at the end of the season. They decided, Alright, we’re gonna probably most likely stick with Justin Fields here moving forward.” Now, Glazer’s and Russini’s thoughts are on one side. And ESPN’s Adam Schefter’s take on Wilson’s future on the other.

His take on The Pat McAfee Show paints a completely different picture from the latest reports. “I was with Russell on Friday, and I’m just telling you, the tone that I got from him was entirely different than the reports that are out there..He’s having conversations with the organization about the future and where it’s gonna go..But I think he definitely thinks that he may be back in Pittsburgh.” So, the only thing that can clear out Wilson’s future is time. Having the patience to know where this saga can move next is surely the one to watch out for this offseason.
