The Jags are in full-on makeover mode this offseason, shaking things up with a total roster reset. But here’s the tea: Trevor Lawrence is still waiting for his new go-to guy. With some key playmakers yeeted out and only a couple of fresh faces in, it’s clear the front office isn’t done looking for players yet.
That’s exactly why Jacksonville checked in on Stefon Diggs before he signed with the New England Patriots. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, “I think the Jaguars checked in. I think other teams were just checking in.” Diggs before he landed his three-year deal in Foxborough. While they didn’t go all-in on him, the fact that they even considered it says a lot. They’re actively looking for a replacement for Christian Kirk, and they’re not just banking on their current roster to get the job done.
And yeah, that makes sense. The Jags’ wide receiver room looks way different now. After trading Kirk, they also let go of Devin Duvernay, Josh Reynolds, and tight end Evan Engram, leaving some serious gaps in their passing game. They did bring in Dyami Brown, but let’s be real, one signing isn’t enough. Right now, their top guys are Brian Thomas Jr. and Brenton Strange, with Gabe Davis (coming off an injury) and Parker Washington rounding out the group. Not exactly the deepest WR corps, huh?

That’s why Jacksonville is looking at the NFL Draft to beef up the roster. Some mock drafts have linked them to Arizona’s Tetairoa McMillan, while others suggest TCU’s Savion Williams as a mid-round steal. Either way, grabbing a young, dynamic receiver would be a huge boost. The Jags clearly know they need more talent, and the draft might be their best shot at locking in a long-term playmaker. There is information that they will fill up their roster before week 1. But who will be there?
At one point, there were even rumors about Jacksonville making a move for Rams star Cooper Kupp. But that ship has sailed—Kupp just signed a three-year, $45 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks. So, what’s next? Whether it’s another free-agent signing, a surprise trade, or a top draft pick, the Jags are still very much in the market for a new WR1. And with Lawrence leading the charge, they’re gonna make sure they get it right.
Why Stefon Diggs ghosted the Jags for the Pats
Stefon Diggs choosing the Patriots over the Jaguars wasn’t some wild plot twist—dude had his reasons. First off, the Pats were down bad for a WR1. Their receiver room was straight-up empty last season, with nobody even reaching 700 yards last season. So when Diggs hit free agency, they pounced. For him, it was a sweet setup—walk in as the guy and instantly be Drake Maye’s top target. No sharing the spotlight, no guessing games. Just him, the bag, and a fresh start.

Speaking of the bag, New England did not fumble the money side of things. They threw him a $69 million deal with $26 million guaranteed, even with his ACL injury from Week 8 last season. That’s real faith right there. The Pats weren’t just paying for his name; they were banking on him bouncing back and leading their offense.
Now, the Jags? Yeah, they wanted him, but that’s about it. No big offer, no aggressive push—just a lil’ ‘hey, what’s up?‘ Meanwhile, the Patriots were out here rolling out the red carpet. So, Diggs did what anyone would do—he went and locked in with the team that actually wanted him. Jacksonville fumbled this one, and now they’re back to square one in their WR hunt.
