Ever since Tom Brady left the New England Patriots, things have been very cathartic for the team. They tried to do their best with Bailey Zappe, Mac Jones, and Nathan Rourke but couldn’t improve much in the QB department this past season. By the end of it all, the Pats ended their 2023 season with a 4-13 record last year. Now, they are being united with their long-lost ex-teammate Jacoby Brissett.
Thanks to a bad season, the Pats have quite a high number of draft picks and they are hell-bent on utilizing it over finding a reliable QB. Safe to say that they will never find someone like Tom Brady again, but there is no harm in searching for a close replacement. A post from Tom Pelissero sheds more light upon the Patriots’ QB conundrum and recent dealings.

Per Pelissero, the Pats have signed Brissett to a one-year $8 million salary which can go up as high as $12 million (with incentives) if the QB does everything right. Per NFL, this is the second time since Tom Brady’s departure that the Pats are looking for a permanent fix to their QB problems.

But this time they might get the shot they desire because they have a 3 overall pick in the upcoming draft. Hence, signing Brissett seems like a backup investment. In the 2023 season, he played just 3 games with the Commanders and only had 224 yards and 3 touchdowns to show for it. He’s never put up a season north of 4,000 yards in his 8 years in the league.
So, the possibility reflects that he won’t be the starting QB for the Patriots. If they want a starting QB material, they will have to dig deeper in the upcoming drafts. Prospects like Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Bo Nix, and Michael Penix Jr. are there for the taking, so the Pats might just do their best with the ample draft picks to find the right choice.
Apart from the Patriots, teams like the Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos, Atlanta Falcons, Washington Commanders, and Minnesota Vikings are also in need of a QB. Out of these, the case of the Falcons truly stands out as they finally turned things around by signing Kirk Cousins.
The Atlanta Falcons are in for a big change
Per recent developments, the Falcons have agreed to a 4-year $180 million deal with Kirk Cousins. This means that Cousins is getting $45 million a season as he makes $100 million as guaranteed money. With this move, the Falcons might have solved their franchise QB problems.

“After significant and positive dialogue with Kirk and his representatives, we were unable to reach agreement on a contract that fits the short- and long-term visions for both Kirk and the Minnesota Vikings,” Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah said in a statement.

Before Kirk joined the team, the Falcons had Marcus Mariota as their starting QB, who was replaced by Desmond Ridder, who also didn’t work out for the team. In response, the Falcons fired their HC Arthur Smith and replaced him with Raheem Morris. Hopefully, the new duo settles in well for the side in the 2024 season.
