Although the Patriots revamped their QB depth chart this offseason, the run for the starting QB is still on. Moreover, it seems like Jacoby Brissett and Drake Maye, are on the same track. But who is ahead? Well, Evan Lazar had something to say about this, as he decided to take it to social media. “I’ve come away from the first nine #Patriots practices very impressed by Jacoby Brissett. The offense looks like an NFL operation, his competitiveness sets the tone,” the reporter posted on X.

Whoever has seen the vet QB have the last laugh by ending the game with a TD to Hunter Henry in the final minutes on Saturday, will never deny Lazar. But he was not the only one to be impressed by Brissett’s performance in the training camp.

Henry himself didn’t hold back while praising the veteran signal-caller and saidHe’s been great, man. On and off the field, he’s been fantastic,”. In addition, the Patriots TE was also happy with his communication with Brissett, “He’s helping me a lot – seeing things in this offense, how he sees things, and how I see things with different routes. Communication has been great.”

Henry got his catch of the day on the 9th training camp. It was the day when Brissett sent the ball high in a 2-minute drill and the TE answered the call with one hand. But that’s not all about the aura of Jacoby.

With a fearless intention of throwing the ball deep downfield, Brissett’s knowledge of the playbook is a huge asset for the Patriots. DeMario Douglas, who sits with Brissett in team meetings, seems to know much about his leadership and knowledge of the game, as he said, “Leadership. He knows – he played under Tom (Brady), so he’s got great knowledge of the game and he’s teaching it to us. I sit next to him in the meeting rooms and he’ll be like, ‘Did you see this? Did you see this?’ As we break it down, it gets easier on the field.”

It seems like the vet signal caller will be sealing his sport as the QB1. But what about the rookie who is expected to be the starting QB for the Patriots? Well, Drake Maye’s first two padded practices weren’t up to the mark, as he failed to show his skills in the first camp on Monday and Tuesday. The rookie QB struggled with accuracy, as he failed to complete half of 16 passes in the 11-on-11 drills. And this score was far behind Jacoby’s completion of 10 of 14 passes in the training camp.

With the coach’s regression on Maye’s non-linear progression, his chances of grabbing the spot of QB1 seem to be far. But, it looks like Brissett has his back.

Jacoby Brissett’s views on the future Patriots star, Drake Maye

Even with Maye’s roller-coaster sessions, Brissett was confident of his development. “I don’t want anybody questioning anything about that. From Drake, he’s done a good job. He’s gotten better each and every day, and that’s all you can ask for, all of us,” the vet QB told the reporters. The raw talent, who flashes big arms, was further encouraged by Brissett on Friday when he said, “Keep going, man. It’s a long training camp.”

But that’s not where Brissett stopped. The 31-year-old also said that Maye is on the right path of doing ‘little things‘ every day, making up for the chances to make the right play. And it seems like his words were justified by the youngster’s training day performance on August 3rd. The rookie QB hit a target, to which Brissett gave a shout-out, clapped, and encouraged the fans to cheer for Maye.

As the season is knocking on the door, will it be Jacoby Brissett with his foot grounded as the starting QB? Or will Maye be able to beat all the odds and rise higher? Well, the wait is not long.
