That’s a shameful loss for the New England Patriots on Thursday! The Jets, from the start itself, didn’t lose at any moment, and eventually won the game with 24-3 on September 19, 2024.

Now, as obvious, all blame is on quarterback Jacoby Brissett. He was sacked 5 times as well as hit ten times. Many, including Robert Griffin III is now demanding coach Jerod Mayo to bench him and bring in Drake Maye as the starter from the next games. But what exactly did he say? Well, Griffin III, who appeared frustrated with the Patriots’ final results, said on X, “Please put Drake Maye in. My God.” The way of exclaiming this loss itself tells how badly he wants the Patriots to be in the right hands.

Now with many criticisms and hatred towards Jacoby Brissett, it was natural for the reporters to ask how he is feeling. But, showing up his sportsman spirit, and being a “grown man,” Brissett took Griffin III and others’ backlash silently. He just replied to the media post-game, “I’m a big man. I can take it.” He even added, “It wasn’t our night. I don’t think we did anything well, to be honest with you.” When the reporters asked about him being hit and sacked multiple times, QB 1 responded, “Imma always get back up. That’s one thing about me, imma always get back up.” But here, it doesn’t seem like he was satisfied with his backups.

Nevertheless, as now Brissett has shown arguably a poor performance on Thursday, the question is whether he will be the starter in the next game. To know what the quarterback himself feels, a curious reporter asked him the same question. To which, he replied, via reporter, Mike Kadlick, “Of course, [but] I don’t make personnel decisions. Says it’s his job to just put his best foot forward.

But if you ask coach Jerod Mayo, he would probably deliver a different answer to this question.

What does Jerod Mayo think about Jacoby Brissett?

It’s strange to see how the NFL changes quickly. Just ahead of the regular season, when the Patriots’ coach Jerod Mayo was asked who he thinks can be the starter? The HC replied, “As an organization, we are 100% behind Jacoby…I had an opportunity to talk to Drake [Maye], I had an opportunity to talk to Jacoby separately and also together, and I feel like we are all on the same page from an organizational perspective.” And now, with two consecutive losses, especially this embarrassing blowout by the Jets, Mayo has the same question again on his table.

Post-game, when the reporters asked him if the team was considering any changes in the quarterback roster for the upcoming games, Mayo replied, “I don’t know.” He mentioned, “We talk about it every single week . . . we’ll get together as a coaching staff.” However, he also pointed out that the team will look at the film once again, and then decide together who will come up next.

This clearly hints that Jacoby Brissett might lose his chance of starting against the 49ers. And if that wasn’t the case, Mayo would have outright denied it, accepting Jacoby Brissett still their leader.
