The New Year has brought some good news for the Mahomes family. One is definitely the Kansas City Chiefs entering into the playoffs, second is some respite to Jackson Mahomes on his last February case. The result of the prosecutors’ motion in favor of Patrick Mahomes’ brother is out.

Jackson Mahomes was arrested on May 5 last year, after allegedly assaulting an elderly woman who was the owner of a now-closed restaurant at Overland Park in KC. He was charged with three felony counts and one misdemeanor battery. As Mahomes pleaded not guilty, the preliminary court hearings, which were postponed twice, finally have the verdict on the motion on Wednesday.

Jackson Mahomes’ three charges dismissed?

A judge in Johnson County has given the green light to prosecutors’ request to drop several charges against Jackson Mahomes. The Mahomes family’s senior and prosecutors filed a motion to dismiss three serious charges related to the sexual battery case on Tuesday. Mahomes, known for his social media presence, attended the preliminary hearing that was shifted to January 3, 2024, from August and then October last year. He was accompanied by his mother, Randi Mahomes, in Johnson County, where the judge ruled in his favor.

The prosecutors stated that the person who made the accusations, Aspen Vaughn, signed a document in November, and called an affidavit, stating that she wouldn’t testify in the case. Additionally, she mentioned to prosecutors that if they gave her legal protection and compelled her to testify, she would claim that she had not been truthful to the police, and the encounter with Jackson was consensual. Despite this, prosecutors decided to pursue the case based on the evidence they had, including surveillance footage. They attempted to subpoena the alleged victim to testify, offering her legal protection, but she has not been served with the subpoena.

The prosecutors claim that, according to information from people in contact with her, she is actively avoiding being served to evade appearing in court. The prosecutors emphasized that the alleged victim has made it clear that she does not want to cooperate.

As now the three felony charges have been dismissed, that doesn’t mean Mahomes’ problems are completely over.

One misdemeanor battery still remains!

With the removal of the three aggravated battery charges, Jackson Mahomes is left with only a misdemeanor battery charge. It’s important to note that the person involved in this misdemeanor charge is not the same as the victim in the three felony counts, as per court records. It was filed by another staff member of the restaurant.

Despite the dropped charges, the prosecutors intend to continue this remaining misdemeanor charge. During the recent court appearance on Wednesday, Jackson Mahomes’ lawyer stated that they won’t be seeking diversion for the misdemeanor. Instead, they are opting for the case to proceed to trial. The pretrial hearing for Mahomes’ case is set for March 22, and the two-day trial is scheduled to commence on March 25.

All eyes are on the future trials now, as Jackson Mahomes has finally got some months to respite.
