The hip-drop tackle might be ruled out of the NFL for good. According to some analyses, it was found that the tackle increases the chances of severe injuries by 20 to 25 times. Hence, the owners, the coaches, and a lot of management alike are hell-bent on getting the move discarded from the NFL. One of those individuals is Jerry Jones.

Jori Epstein just released a couple of statements from the business tycoon by the looks of it, it seems like the Dallas Cowboys owner is not a proponent of the hip-drop tackle. Why? It undoubtedly has a mention of his team, particularly his quarterback Dak Prescott. There have been instances where Dak Prescott was taken down very roughly by the controversial tackle, but fortunately, he was able to avoid any serious injury.

Jerry Jones is adamant to tackle the dangerous move

There might have been some owner meetings recently as Epstein reported that Jerry Jones “absolutely” expects the hip-drop tackle to be banned this week. When asked to elaborate more on the situation Jones said, “You can coach that one. In my mind, that’s one of the easier deals. It reminds me a little of (the) horse collar. That’s needed. That’s very needed. It’s very obvious that it’s injurious.” But he wasn’t done here.

“It’s just too sudden,” Jerry said, for a defender to drop a player “like they’ve been shot between eyes when they catch them just right. I know of no other way to tackle somebody that stops them right where they are in the open field. Well, that’s got to rupture something.”

Jerry Jones was more motivated than before to get the tackle removed from the NFL because his precious QB Dak Prescott nearly got severely injured in a game against the Detroit Lions. He was tackled not once, but twice in the same game.

Dak Prescott’s situation draws a recollection of the conversation surrounding the tackle!

An NFL journalist by the name of Brandon Loree shared an instance of the game where Prescott was tackled by the Lions’ DE Aiden Hutchinson. The first tackle wasn’t all that bad, but the second time could have proved to be a risky business. In the video, we can see Hutchinson clinching on Prescott trying to wrestle him to the ground.

Closely looking at the video, the move was a threat to both Prescott and Hutchinson as they could have easily broken an ankle or torn a muscle. For a moment, Prescott seemed helpless. The move has also injured several other players including Geno Smith of the Seahawks and Mark Andrews, the Ravens TE in the past.

“There’s always going to be resistance from the player when you talk about removing things, and I respect that,” said Troy Vincent, the NFL’s head of operations in an interview with the Mirror. “There was resistance to removing the blindside block, the crackback block, and the attack block.”

“There was resistance removing the horse collar. Again, I mentioned it earlier in the opening: durability and availability is the number one and two aspect for any professional athlete and particularly with football players,” he continued. “I have a technique that causes 20 to 25-percent injury rate when it occurs. I respect their position but as gatekeepers of the game. This is something that we have to remove.”
