Joe Burrow has had a tumultuous experience playing in the NFL, right from his rookie year. He was drafted first overall in the 2020 NFL Draft from LSU. In his first season itself, he suffered an ACL and MCL tear in his left knee, which saw him sidelined for the rest of the season. And now, three years later, another injury has ended his fourth season as well.
The Cincinnati Bengals QB left his team at 5-5, midway through the season. In September, he became the highest-paid player in the league with his $275 million, five-year extension. And now the Bengals are left wondering what they pay so much for, after all? A new video shows Burrow’s reaction after getting injured.
Bengals to go through the rest of the season without Burrow
Joe Burrow had, early in the game, taken a hit from Jadeveon Clowney. But the hit wasn’t a strong one and didn’t involve major contact. After that, however, he threw a touchdown pass to RB Joe Mixon, and that was when he injured his wrist. Dov Kleiman shared a video on X which captured his reaction after sustaining the injury. “It popped. My wrist,” he could be heard saying and shaking his head in anger and disappointment.

The Bengals ended up losing the game 34-20 to the Baltimore Ravens. After the game, an MRI confirmed that the injury would require surgery. “The play before it happened, I landed on the wrist a little bit, and the next play, the touchdown pass, just felt a pop in the middle of the throw,” Burrow said on Friday. “Tried to give it a go but just couldn’t get it done, and obviously got the news today, so not great.”

This comes amid a barrage of bad news, with Burrow as the source. A few days ago, the franchise had been penalized by the NFL for certain violations.

Joe Burrow costs his team draft picks for the next 2 years
When the team landed in Baltimore for the game, Burrow was seen wearing a device on his wrist, as he was getting out of the team bus. The video itself had been posted by the Bengals on X, which they soon deleted. But that had already raised the league’s alarms, and it set its hounding dogs after the team.

Terrible news followed the Bengals after the investigation. Per Adam Schefter’s social media post, “After the investigation by the league the NFL has found the Bengals liable for hiding Joe Burrow injury and not reporting it on the injury report.” As punishment, they had to lose their 2024’s 1st and 3rd round picks and 2025’s 6th round pick. And if that wasn’t enough, the team was even fined $500,000.

It seems that before departing for the entire season, Burrow has given his team a parting gift. The Bengals showed huge promise during the start of the season, but alas, it doesn’t seem like that anymore.
