With such a strong NFL lineage, can Zack Moss surpass the achievements of Randy and Santana?

NFL running back Zack Moss signed with the Cincinnati Bengals for the 2024 season. Moss started his NFL career after being drafted in the third round, 86th overall, of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. He then signed with the Indianapolis Colts for the 2022 to 2023 season. The RB has rushed for 2,076 yards to go with 14 rushing touchdowns, as of the 2023 season. But he is not the only one in his family who loves football.

Zack Moss was born to Anthony and Cassandra Moss. According to The New York Times, his parents are all about football and have five children, among whom are three sons and two daughters. He said his parents and siblings were his no.1 fans and always came to watch his games. However, there are so many speculations made that Randy Moss might be one of his family members.

Is Zack Moss Related to Randy Moss?

Randy Gene Moss is a former professional football wide receiver, who played for 14 seasons in the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings, Oakland Raiders, New England Patriots, Tennessee Titans, and San Francisco 49ers. Randy was born in Rand, West Virginia. He went to DuPont High School, which was one of two later consolidated into Riverside High School, where he excelled in football, basketball, baseball, and track. Randy was also on the school debate team.

While Zack was born in Hialeah Gardens, Florida, he attended Mater Academy Charter School. Before transferring to Hallandale High School in Hallandale Beach, Florida, for his senior year. As a senior, he played with future college teammate Tyler Huntley and ran for 1,098 yards on 145 carries with 17 touchdowns. He had committed to the University of Miami previously to play college football but decided to go to the University of Utah. So if you believed Zack Moss is related to Randy Moss – “No,” he’s not. But then, Moss did have cousins who played football.

Santana, his first cousin, was a wide receiver who reached an All-Pro team and Pro Bowl in his debut season at Washington. He played as a wide receiver in the NFL for 14 seasons. Santana’s younger brother, Sinorice, too has an impressive record in football.

Sinorice Moss was an outstanding wide receiver at the collegiate football level for the University of Miami Hurricanes. Drafted during the 2nd round of the 2006 NFL Draft and signed to play for the New York Giants, he became the MVP in the 2006 Senior Bowl. He has since been able to do what other college football players can only dream of leaving the game and making a name for himself in Hollywood as an actor. As we discussed, his family is a footballing one, so that’s not it. There is another one that has really been exemplary in football.

Zack Moss is a second cousin to Patrick Peterson, the great defensive back for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was drafted as the fifth overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft by the Arizona Cardinals. A member of the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team, Peterson was selected to the Pro Bowl in each of his first eight seasons in the NFL, and was named to the All-Pro First Team three times. After spending 10 seasons with Arizona, he signed with the Minnesota Vikings in 2021 as a free agent. He then signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2023.

So you can see this has fueled his love for football. Moss also acknowledged that he “had uncles that was in that lifestyle, cousins that was in that lifestyle and still probably (are) to this day”. And he played football with them and many of his other friends, and that was their common activity. Zack Moss also believes that those games with his cousins have helped him overcome the challenges he faced on the field.
