There are a lot of skills you need to become a killer quarterback. You need an intuitive understanding of the field, you need to know the playbook inside and out. You need to be athletic, but more importantly, you need a beast of an arm. Now, Tyson Bagent, backup quarterback for the Chicago Bears, has more than got that.
But he’s got stiff competition from his dad, Travis. It’s common for a son to want to measure up to their dad, but that’s tougher than usual for young Tyson Bagent. And his mother’s no slouch either.

There’s always a chance you’ve already heard of Travis Bagent if you follow the NFL. The dude’s gone viral a couple of times, after all. As a kid growing up in Martinsburg, West Virginia, Bagent’s dad, Jerry Boyd, was a big influence on him. Boyd had gotten into arm wrestling as a marine in the 1960s, and by the 90s, was running the Big Arm Bar and Grill in nearby Shepherdstown. Travis Bagent started working there at age 15 and began to learn the ropes of the sport.
The arm he built up there came in handy when he started playing baseball at Shepherd University. That didn’t last long though, and by his senior year in 1999, Bagent decided to compete in his first national championship, which he won. Bagent’s an ambidextrous arm wrestler, and he’s so successful it’s difficult to find an accurate record of how much he’s won. As best as we could tell, he’s won at least 35 national titles and 17 World Champion titles. He earned his nickname, “The Beast.”

But he got popular among NFL fans in February of 2023, when he arm wrestled NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. This happened live on-air by the side of the stadium. And yes, we know the embedded tweet calls him a 28-time world championship, but we haven’t been able to verify that. What we can tell you is that the event brought a lot of publicity to Bagent. Pelissero went down like a ragdoll, and Bagent was cool and calm on the mic throughout. He later springboarded off that popularity by offering anyone who could beat him arm wrestling $10,000 live on air from Football Night on NBC, earlier this year.

Tyson Bagent’s mom, Casey, is one of 10 kids raised by David J Humphreys after he married the widowed Peggy Sills. We don’t know what year she was born in, but she celebrates her birthday on March the 31st, making her an Aries. She met Travis Bagent at Martinsburg High School, where they were both students. Their first date didn’t come till October of 1994, when Travis took her to the homecoming dance.
Bagent waited to marry Casey until she graduated from Shepherd University in 2002 with her degree in sports marketing. By this time, Tyson had already been born. The Bagents now have 4 kids, 2 sons, Tyson and Ezra, and 2 daughters, Diem and Valyn. For kids who have a manly and amped-up father like Travis “the Beast” Bagent, Casey is the calming presence in their lives they need. We’re sure she was instrumental in Tyson’s success, every bit as much as Travis was.
