I never knew my identity in this world, I never knew my purpose, until I met the Lord.” That’s TreVeyon Henderson for you. While some players credit their parents, and others swear by sheer hard work, the Ohio State running back sees his faith as the driving force behind his success. Sure, his parents’ support and dedication played a role, but for Henderson, belief in something bigger made all the difference.

After having four impeccable seasons for the Buckeyes, Henderson is ready to enter pro football in 2025. The guy’s been part of the Buckeyes since 2021 and is regarded as a key weapon of their O-line. After rushing for over 3,500 yards and racking up 77 touchdowns in his collegiate career, Henderson is likely setting his sights on that first NFL contract to kick-start his pro football career. But before we move on to his pro career, let’s talk about his religion and ethnicity.

What is TreVeyon Henderson’s Religion?

Born on October 22, 2002, Henderson was raised with his two brothers, Ronnie Walker Jr. and Kesean Henderson. Standing at 5’10” and weighing nearly 200 pounds, the 22-year-old RB is a devout Christian and has remained very close to his religion throughout his football career. To be more specific, the RB believes that football is a gift that God allowed him to play.

Last year, Henderson participated in an event at Upper Arlington (Ohio) High School where he talked about his faith and beliefs. Joined by Emeka Egbuka and Gee Scott Jr, Henderson revealed the importance of God not just in his personal but professional life as well.

“Football is a gift that God has allowed me to play, and He’s given me a platform to continue to spread the Word, spread the Gospel, and lead others to Him,” Henderson said. “That’s my purpose — to continue to play this game for the glory of the Lord.” The Ohio State Buckeyes’ RB had one of the best freshmen seasons in college football history.

The guy started 11 games out of 13 and rushed for 1,248 yards and even notched up a record-breaking 19 touchdowns. Now, that was his time to continue his performance in his sophomore year. However, his second season in Ohio was limited to eight games following a foot injury. And that injury turned out to be a turning point in his career.

The OSU’s strength and conditioning coach, Kenny Parker, encouraged him to start reading the New Testament. Considering Parker’s advice, Henderson came across numerous examples of how Jesus heals people. That’s when he started praying to be healed, not just from his on-field injuries, but his sleep paralysis as well.“When I turned to Him and accepted Him into my life, He changed me,” he stated during The Walk Podcast.

“He filled me with this love that you can’t find nowhere else. You can’t find it in money, you can’t find it in women, you can’t find it in football. You can’t find it in your family members.” The result? The guy had been suffering from sleep paralysis ever since he was a kid. However, it suddenly disappeared as he gave his life to the Lord.

What is the OSU’s RB’s ethnicity?

The 22-year-old Buckeye’s RB was born in Hopewell, Virginia, and is of African-American ethnicity. However, Henderson grew up in a rough environment. The reasons? Well, there are plenty of reasons behind that. First off, he lived in a town with 21.3% of people living below the poverty line. To make things even worse, the Hopewell community was plagued with violence during his childhood. Additionally, Henderson’s parents also split apart.

Though his dad stayed in touch with Henderson and his brothers, it was his mom, Lakeesha, who raised TreVeyon and her two other kids.“It broke me at a young age. I wanted to help her, “he said last year. “I’d just see her crying, there was nothing I could do being at that young age. I became so dark at the time. Sometimes, I’d be alone, and these evil thoughts would pop into my head…I had so much anger in my heart…That’s why my mom put me in football. Football became a way that I could drive that danger.” He even talked about taking some drastic steps to get rid of the pain and anger.

But thanks to her mom, Lakeesha, who introduced Henderson to football and, since then, football became everything for him. Fast forward to the present, the Ohio State Buckeyes’ fans are eager to see Henderson take charge in the pros. After all, the RB is all set to start his NFL career after recording one of the best seasons of his college career. With 1,016 rushing yards and 10 TDs against his name in the 2024 season, Henderson is all set for the 2025 NFL draft.

At the end of the day, it won’t be wrong to say that with his mom’s support and his belief in God, TreVeyon Henderson has come a long way. From defeating his sleep paralysis to getting rid of his negative thoughts on life, Henderson is now ready to start the next chapter of his career. Now that he’s gearing up for the pros, let’s see what’s in store for him.
