Is the Patriot Way going to die out and only be a thing of the past? Bill Belichick, who is credited with having created the Patriot Way, is himself going to be a victim of it. Belichick does have an emotional and nurturing side, but when it comes to the sport and team that he loves, there is a certain degree of coldness to the way he operates. And no one’s complaining about that. It has paid great dividends for the Patriots and helped them win 6 Super Bowl Championships.

But as rumors thicken that he is indeed going to be shown the door after the current season ends, will Robert Kraft, the team’s owner, become the last bastion of the Way that has defined football excellence for more than a decade?

When NBC Sports’ Tom Curran broke the news that owner Robert Kraft was going to fire Belichick after the current season, the football world had mixed reactions. Some were finally happy that with Belichick gone, the Patriots’ woes might come to an end. But some, including 7x Super Bowl Champion, and former Patriot, Tom Brady said that he will have a hard time watching the Patriots without Belichick.

The Patriots lost the GOAT of football to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and it stung Kraft when Brady went on to lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy with his new team, and even won a Super Bowl MVP with them. Even though the Patriots Way calls for Kraft to keep his emotions aside and do what’s best for the team, will he be able to show the door to his coach and GM, who has been with the team for 24 seasons?

If Kraft is the last guardian of the Patriot Way, he will not hesitate in pulling the plug on Belichick. It might as well be the best decision for the Pats.

The Patriots are currently 3-10, with their last four games in the regular season being against some of the toughest teams in the league. No one would argue that Belichick is a defensive genius as 18 out of the 49 years that he has spent as a coach, he has coached the defense. But his offensive prowess is not something the Pats can bank on. Their offense currently languishes at the bottom of the entire NFL with their points per game at 13. By the yards/game metric, they are the fourth worst.

Since he is both head coach and general manager, he is responsible for roster development as well. And in the previous draft, he spent his first three picks on drafting defensive players to fortify an already great defense. The Pats only turned their attention to the offense in their later picks.
