Can the Cowboys survive without Micah Parsons, or is he the backbone of their defense?

The Dallas Cowboys have had a very volatile season so far. They opened with an overwhelming victory, followed it up with an overwhelming defeat, then a narrow defeat, and then a narrow victory. Who knows which way the pattern’s going to go next? Well, the next game’s against the Pittsburgh Steelers, who were undefeated until last week’s Colts game. It’ll definitely be a challenge. At 2-2, they stand at a turning point in their season.

The Dallas team will be feeling a little less confident now that defensive end Micah Parsons has been listed out for Sunday’s game. Parsons was NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2021, and has been a reliable face for the Cowboys ever since. It was during their Week 4 win against the Giants that Parsons injured his ankle and had to be carried off the field. Sadly, it could take up to 6-8 weeks for his recovery.

Besides Parsons, wide receiver Brandin Cooks is out with a knee injury. Center backs Calen Carson and Trevor Diggs are also questionable, with a shoulder injury and ankle injury, respectively. Linebacker Marist Liufau is also questionable with a quad injury.

With this patchy defense, things aren’t looking too good for the Dallas Cowboys. They’ll miss Micah Parsons in particular. This is actually the first game he’s missed due to injury, the one game he’s ever missed before was in his rookie year due to Covid-19.

How are the Cowboys’ playoff hopes looking?

The Dallas Cowboys have made the playoffs for three years running, but will they make it this time? Not if you believe what Chris Canty has to say. “NFC East is going to be a one playoff team division, and it ain’t going to be either one of them teams you watched last night,” is what he said, in reference to the Giants-Cowboys game. The Philadephia Eagles were the pre-season favorites to top the division, but it’s the Washington Commanders who’ve really impressed.

Have an interesting take?

The Cowboys have to be praying that the Commanders, currently at 3-1, slip up and make mistakes, just to give them some breathing room. They’re up against the Ravens and the Panthers next, and you could realistically expect them to win at least one of those games. Compare that to what the Cowboys have on their plate. First a matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and then with Detroit Lions. Both teams 3-1. Do the math, it looks like the Cowboys will have to hope for a late-season win streak to up their odds. Because right now, things are looking pretty dicey.
