The Carolina Panthers are heading to match their worst-ever record in the NFL, after 1 win and 12 losses with 4 games to play. And QB Bryce Young is having a disastrous season throughout. But one surprising comparison recently revealed how terrible he has been.

The Panthers played their worst season ever in 2001, 6 years after they had the best inaugural season in the league’s history. But two decades later, the team is still trying to catch up to its rapid rise. And failing miserably, with shockingly ineffective individual performances. Is the time over for Young then?

Jalen Carter more effective than Bryce Young

Eagles‘ DT Jalen Carter is a huge entity at 6-foot-three, 312 lbs, and known for his field presence. What he’s not known for is his offensive prowess or scoring ability. However, as things turn out, the DT has more contribution to the Eagles (1 touchdown) than Young has to the Panthers (0 touchdown) in the past three weeks.

Carter even has the same number of TDs as Chargers‘ WR, Quentin Johnston, who was the 2nd WR pick in the 2023 NFL draft. While Carter’s success resonates with the 10-3 Eagles’ record, Young’s failure does the same for the Panthers too, but for the wrong reasons. Especially after his promising arrival to the league earlier in the season.

The downfall of prospectus Bryce Young

Bryce Young was a hot prospect coming into the 2023 NFL draft and is even a former Sugar Bowl MVP. That’s why the desperate Panthers looking for redemption from their decade-long poor run drafted the QB as the no. 1 pick. But since then, it’s been a downward trajectory for him.

Young has 244-477 for 2192 yards (25th) this season with 9 touchdowns (25th), a passer rating of 70.9, and just a 58.5 completion percentage. The numbers land him at the bottom of the bottom half of QBs, which fails to justify his draft prospect. Far from redemption, they are on course to match the 1-15 record from 2001, their worst ever since foundation in 1993.

The season has long been over for the Panthers. Will they try to test their backups and give Young a much-needed break as there’s nothing more to do? We will find that out next week.
