Can the Colts survive without Anthony Richardson, or is their season already doomed?

Injuries swarming up in week 4. SNF is back to its brutal best. During the Colts game against the Steelers, quarterback Anthony Richardson collided with Pittsburgh’s safety, Minkah Fitzpatrick. Now Steel City knows all too well about losing the signal-caller, but as for the Colts, this could be a big blow. So what’s the update on Richardson?

It’s not looking great. According to multiple reports, Richardson’s return is questionable due to a hip injury. The Colts’ QB headed straight to the locker room after the hit.

Only minutes after the collision, it was confirmed that Anthony Richardson was ruled out. These little injuries sneak up on you. One moment you’re in the game, and the next, you’re sidelined when everything seemed fine. It’s the kind of blow that hits hardest when you least expect it.

After leading the Colts to a scoring drive capped by a Jonathan Taylor touchdown, Richardson took off for a 16-yard run. As he got tackled, a Steelers defender hit him hard in the back. He clutched his hip in pain but still returned to the field a couple of plays later. However, after another run near the goal line, Richardson went down again and didn’t get back up.

This isn’t just a setback for the Colts—it’s a blow for Richardson himself, who has already missed major time in his rookie season because of the season-ending AC joint sprain in Week 5. And in one game alone, he took not just one hit but two massive blows to finally call it a day!

Is it 2023 all over again for Anthony Richardson?

The Steelers’ hits on Anthony Richardson were exactly the kind of blows he needed to avoid after his season-ending shoulder injury last year. This time, two hits left him on the turf again, and things weren’t looking great. Richardson’s first run showcased the electric play he brings to the Colts offense, but it came at a cost.

After keeping the ball on a fake handoff to Jonathan Taylor, Richardson opted for contact instead of sliding. A hit from Steelers’ safety DeShon Elliott knocked him down and forced a fumble. Even though Colts center Tanor Bortolini saved the play, Richardson stayed down, clearly shaken. He managed to walk off under his own power, but the damage was done.

Returning to the field after Joe Flacco took a couple of snaps, Richardson tried to slide on another run but was hit high by Minkah Fitzpatrick. This time, there was no getting back up. Trainers rushed in, and Richardson headed straight to the locker room. Now, the big question looms: Can the Colts survive another Richardson injury, or will this season follow the same frustrating pattern?
