The massive dysfunction of the New York Jets has forced Aaron Rodgers‘ hands to make a major career decision. It’s high time for him to decide whether he wants to stay with the Jets, retire, or move on to another team. Maybe he’ll pull a Brett Favre and move to the Vikings, who knows? But that’s up to the Jets to decide whether they want to keep him or not.
But the firing of head coach Robert Saleh and GM Joe Douglas has made the football world frantic. Everyone is free to take their picks and so, SI’s Albert Breer presented his take on the Dan Patrick Show. Breer thinks that Rodgers will have a hard time finding a new suitor because not a lot of teams would want a soon-to-be 41-year-old quarterback.
Hiring Aaron Rodgers is like music to the ears of many. But pairing him with a young or a rookie QB might be a problem. Would teams really bench a future HOFer QB in favor of a rookie? Most likely not. Yes, it worked out for Jordan Love, but it might not be the same for many other young guys in the league. To that end, Dan Patrick wanted to know what kind of market will there be for Aaron Rodgers next year.

“I think the big thing is whether or not he wants to play and you know one thing in the couple of times I’ve talked to him about that he brought up is not wanting to go out the way he went out last year,” Albert Breer told Dan Patrick. Per the SI lead, Rodgers doesn’t want his legacy to be tainted by another Achilles injury and wants to go out with all guns blazing.
But Breer was convinced that there wouldn’t be a “robust market” for the 4x MVP. A-Rod would have to “check a lot of boxes” for any team to consider him. However, there isn’t a way that none of the 32 teams in the league would want a quarterback like Aaron Rodgers. Sure, he brings some baggage with him, but after watching this Jets season unfold, the next team hiring him will be well aware of what the QB brings to the table and what he doesn’t.
Perhaps, some teams will follow the path of Atlanta Falcons where they drafted Michael Penix Jr. to learn from Kirk Cousins. But that will also depend on whether Rodgers agrees to those terms. Till then, let’s focus on this season and what Aaron Rodgers has planned for himself as the Jets are mathematically out of the playoffs contention and the next off-season is on the horizon.
Aaron Rodgers gets vocal about his future
The New York team is on the verge of finding a new head coach and a new GM for the next season. Woody Johnson, the owner of the team, supposedly wanted A-Rod to be benched (some say that was a joke), so the QB will have to consider that possibility. But despite all the drama, the former Super Bowl winner QB wants to stay with the Jets but is unsure whether he wants to play in the next season or not.

Rodgers took to The Pat McAfee Show and pointed out that he hasn’t told anyone that he didn’t want to play for the Jets and still, the rumors are spinning out of control. The QB dubbed those rumors as “100% false” and said that he’s not jumping ship because he’s enjoyed his time in New York, made friends, and loved his time in Jersey.
“I don’t even know if I wanna play yet, but New York would be my first option,” Rodgers said. “When you’re 40, going on 41, you’re obviously at the end of your career. … If it’s New York, they have to want me to be here. And then the new GM, the new staff, they’ll all have to want me to be with the Jets.”

Rodgers also iterated that whether he’ll play next year or not will also depend on the condition of his body, but if he chooses to continue, the New York Jets will be his first choice. The whole Jets management might change depending on whether Woody Johnson goes to the UK to be Donald Trump’s ambassador or not. Till then, we’re just as clueless as anyone.
