Patrick Mahomes has become a superstar in his own right. After leading the Kansas City Chiefs to their third Super Bowl in his leadership. The fierce rivals Las Vegas Raiders have come up with a plan to hinder Mahomes’ success. A plan that might draw flak from the NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

There is no doubt that Mahomes brings a lot of eyeballs and revenue for the NFL. As the superstar gains more popularity and celebrity status, that is bound to increase. However, the Raiders’ head coach Antonio Pierce has devised a mechanism to slow him down.

“We’ve got the Jordan rules and what I’m calling, from now on as long as I’m here, the Patrick Mahomes rules”, said HC Pierce on Maxx Crosby’s podcast ‘The Rush’. During the 1980’s Michael Jordan was subjected to harsh treatment by their bitter rivals, the Detroit Pistons, and HC Pierce wants to replicate the same.

“The Pistons used to whip his ass”, said Pierce, talking about the physical, mental, and spiritual hardships that the Detroit team gave to Jordan. And the 45-year-old HC wants the same treatment for Mahomes by the Raiders.

However, there is one issue, the game has changed a lot since the late 80s. Whether it’s basketball or football, the physicality has been toned down severely. But the Raiders are looking to pile up the penalties and fines, in hopes of winning. But they haven’t taken into account Commissioner Goodell’s approach.

The Commissioner will have his say

Goodell became the Commissioner of the NFL in 2006 and since then he has made the game reliably safe for all players. But more so for the quarterback. Goodell understands that the QB is the star of the game and needs to be protected. And no QB is at the stardom level of Patrick Mahomes.
