The Kansas City Chiefs clinched the Super Bowl again. Becoming the ninth-ever team in the league’s history to win the Super Bowl back-to-back. And the Chiefs achieved it in the overtime on the back of a marvelous drive led by Patrick Mahomes!
It was a drive for the ages. It’s a drive that will be remembered as one of the greatest in Super Bowl history. A drive that cemented Mahomes’ legacy as one of the best QBs of all time. So let us explore some of the great moments from this instant classic!
Patrick Mahomes leaves it for late

The Chiefs were down 22-19 to the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII, with 3:12 left in OT. There was only one timeout left, and the ball was at their 25-yard line. They needed 75 yards and a miracle. Thankfully they had Patrick Mahomes.

This famous drive started with a short pass to WR Isiah Pacheco, 7 yards gained. The QB then scrambled for eight yards and a first down. Next play, Mahomes found WR Rashee Rice, another 11 yards gained with a first down. The Chiefs had now crossed the midfield!
They were in the striking distance, enough to try for a field goal and a tie. But Mahomes wanted more. He wanted to win! The 28-year-old went for a deep pass to WR Mecole Hardman, and the Niners conceded a penalty.
With only 1:23 left on the clock, Mahomes then rushed to gain 19 crucial yards. The Chiefs are now in the red zone. For the second last play of the season, Mahomes connects with TE Travis Kelce for a 7-yard gain. The Chiefs called their final timeout with 37 seconds left and the Niners defense was on its heels, trying to prevent the inevitable.

For their final shot at Super Bowl glory, the Chiefs run ‘Tom and Jerry’, named by Mahomes himself. While head coach Andy Reid calls it ‘Corndog’. “That was ‘corndog.’ This was ‘corndog’ with a little mustard and ketchup”, said Reid after the game.

With only 6 seconds left on the clock, Mahomes took the snap and rolled to his right. The eventual Super Bowl MVP saw Hardman running a slant route across the end zone. Mahomes fired the ball in the direction of his speedy receiver. Hardman caught it in stride and dove across the goal line. Touchdown!

Mahomes finished the game with 333 passing yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. The Chiefs had won their third Super Bowl in five years. And Patrick Mahomes is firmly in the GOAT conversation.
