Can Ricky Pearsall bounce back stronger after his injury, or is this a major setback for the 49ers?

Ricky Pearsall, the 49ersfirst-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, was seriously wounded in a robbery on Saturday, August 30th. After the incident, his mom, Mama Pearsall, stepped up to keep fans in the loop about his condition. She’s been sharing updates on his progress, and an injury expert later explained what happened to him.

Physical therapist Jeff Mueller breaks down Ricky Pearsall’s injury on “X”, saying, “The bandages in the video give a rough idea of the entry and exit wounds. The exit wound might not be as big, but it’s likely somewhere around that area. Could be anything from muscle damage to scapula or nerve damage. Depending on any bullet fragments… we won’t know for sure for a while.” He added that Pearsall is fortunate if his lungs weren’t affected, but he’s still got a recovery ahead of him.

This story grabbed everyone’s attention when Erin Pearsall shared an update about Ricky on Facebook. She started with, “Update on my baby boy,” then revealed, “He was shot in the chest, and it exited through his back. Thanks be to GOD, it missed his vital organs. He’s in good spirits now.” Erin wrapped up by asking everyone to “pray for her baby boy.” A mother’s prayers can work wonders. We’re all hoping for a full recovery, and that the shooter gets punished.

San Francisco Supervisor Aaron Peskin’s office confirmed to NBC Bay Area that Pearsall was shot but is stable and has no life-threatening injuries. They also confirmed that the suspect was accidentally shot with his own gun. The San Francisco Police Department reported that the suspect tried to rob Pearsall, which turned into a physical fight. The 17-year-old suspect from Tracy is now in custody and was taken to San Francisco General Hospital for further medical evaluation, along with Pearsall.

The 49ers are also concerned about Pearsall. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel posted on social media, saying, “He’s good🤞🏾🙏🏾,” grateful that he wasn’t seriously hurt. Head Coach Shanahan also spoke about the situation, showing his support.

HC Shanahan explained that Ricky Pearsall’s injury is a shoulder subluxation. “He did it in college, I think, his junior year,” Shanahan said during the 49ers’ preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders last week. “About 50% of the people coming out of college do that. That wasn’t really the problem. He did it in OTAs for the first time with us.” Shanahan added that Ricky had another subluxation on August 6, but still kept practicing.

Pearsall, the No. 31 pick who played with Brandon Aiyuk at Arizona State University before transferring, joined six out of 19 training camp practices. Unfortunately, he missed three preseason games due to shoulder injuries. Now, this latest injury has sidelined him for 20 days. We’re keeping him in our thoughts and hope to see him back on the field soon.
