People will have to wait longer to see Russell Wilson play for the Steelers. The QB was ruled out of the season opener against the Atlanta Falcons because of his calf injury that occurred during a conditioning test, but Justin Fields was right there to replace him. As Fields rose up in the depth chart, Kyle Allen was the backup, and Wilson- the inactive third quarterback. It will be clear after Wednesday’s practice if Wilson can return for the Steelers’ Week 2 game against the Denver Broncos. However, the 35-year-old is using up his free time for a good cause!
While he spent time away from Steelers’ Week 1 game, he made a heartwarming visit to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. “God, We Thank YOU for Your incredible Healing Power & Your relentless love! @childrenspgh @whynotyoufdn,” he wrote on his Instagram post. But this is not the first time he has done something like this.
If anything, the QB has a history of visiting pediatric hospital patients. He had visited the UPMC Children’s Hospital earlier this spring.

Not only this, on Sept. 4, the hospital’s IG handle shared a series of photos, with the caption, “Steelers QB Russell Wilson stopped by UPMC Children’s Hospital today bringing lots of smiles ahead of Sunday’s season opener. Here’s to a black and gold victory, and many more visits from #3.”
The children were holding the signed Terrible Towels, while Russell Wilson posed with them. And, in this manner, he has continued his cause for pediatric hospitals. Back when he was playing for the Denver Broncos, he had worn a pair of cleats that honored the work of the Children’s Hospital in Colorado and the Why Not You Foundation. His gesture was a part of the NFL’s #MyCauseMyCleats drive. But let us not forget one of his biggest gestures.
When he was with the Seahawks, he would visit the Seattle Children’s Hospital every Tuesday. This went on for a decade and, in fact, it became a tradition called ‘Blue Tuesday’, so it was common to see the Seahawks gear become a typical duty attire for many who worked there.
