Ciara's fight for babies' crisis while Russell is injured—how inspiring is this power couple?

People will have to wait longer to see Russell Wilson play for the Steelers. The QB was ruled out of the season opener against the Atlanta Falcons because of his calf injury that occurred during a conditioning test, but Justin Fields was right there to replace him. As Fields rose up in the depth chart, Kyle Allen was the backup, and Wilson- the inactive third quarterback. It will be clear after Wednesday’s practice if Wilson can return for the Steelers’ Week 2 game against the Denver Broncos. However, the 35-year-old is using up his free time for a good cause!

While he spent time away from Steelers’ Week 1 game, he made a heartwarming visit to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. “God, We Thank YOU for Your incredible Healing Power & Your relentless love! @childrenspgh @whynotyoufdn,” he wrote on his Instagram post. But this is not the first time he has done something like this.

If anything, the QB has a history of visiting pediatric hospital patients. He had visited the UPMC Children’s Hospital earlier this spring.

Not only this, on Sept. 4, the hospital’s IG handle shared a series of photos, with the caption, “Steelers QB Russell Wilson stopped by UPMC Children’s Hospital today bringing lots of smiles ahead of Sunday’s season opener. Here’s to a black and gold victory, and many more visits from #3.

The children were holding the signed Terrible Towels, while Russell Wilson posed with them. And, in this manner, he has continued his cause for pediatric hospitals. Back when he was playing for the Denver Broncos, he had worn a pair of cleats that honored the work of the Children’s Hospital in Colorado and the Why Not You Foundation. His gesture was a part of the NFL’s #MyCauseMyCleats drive. But let us not forget one of his biggest gestures.

When he was with the Seahawks, he would visit the Seattle Children’s Hospital every Tuesday. This went on for a decade and, in fact, it became a tradition called ‘Blue Tuesday’, so it was common to see the Seahawks gear become a typical duty attire for many who worked there.

Interesting Fact: Russell Wilson was given the 2020 NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year Award and the 2022 Bart Starr Award in recognition of his philanthropic impact.

Now, while the quarterback was busy at the hospital, his superstar wife, Ciara, was also spending time advocating for maternal and child health.

Russell Wilson also shared a story through his IG account, originally shared by Alba Tull. It was a snap from the Baby2baby New York City event featuring Ciara and Alba Tull. They both hold the title of ‘Angel’ at Baby2Baby and are listed as members of the Board of Directors.

Giving back to the community, they support the needs of the children of low-income families to improve their overall well-being. Ciara looked ethereal in white overalls from the event. Wilson shared it with the caption, “Making a difference.”

The ‘Level Up’ singer made it a priority to be a part of the event as Baby2Baby’s initiative provides children living in poverty with diapers, formula, clothing, and other necessities. “Being a mom, you know, I have a very big heart and passion and strong desire to care and help other moms around the world, because this really is not an easy job,” she told PEOPLE about her passion.

“I really love the beautiful work that Baby2Baby does. And you know, ever since Roy and Kelly [Rowland] asked me to be a part of the family and a team, I was onboard so easily, and it’s been so amazing to see the growth and how many lives have been impacted along the journey at Baby2Baby.”

Not only this, the couple also runs their nonprofit organization, Why Not You Academy. Back in 2020, the Wilson pair announced the launch of their charter public high school together. Since then, they have benefited from high-quality education plus suitable supervision for students from underprivileged regions.
