The NFL has been around for over a century, but it has never seen anything quite like the Deshaun Watson saga in Cleveland. And at this rate, even in the next 100 years, it’s hard to imagine another team going through what the Browns are dealing with right now. To pry Watson away from Houston, the Browns didn’t just push their chips to the center of the table—they practically emptied the vault. They surrendered three first-round draft picks (2022-24), a third-round pick (2023), and two fourth-round picks (2022 and 2024). But that wasn’t all. Cleveland was so confident in Watson that they handed him a jaw-dropping, fully guaranteed five-year, $230 million contract—the richest deal of its kind in NFL history!
So, what’s the current status of someone who was supposed to live up to his expectations? In simple words, neither the Browns nor Watson know when they will be meeting again. Watson is currently recovering from his dual ACL blow. First, he ruptured his ACL in week 7—this ended his season after leading the Browns 1-6 as a starter. Then, with all the talks of him coming back strong, Watson re-ruptured his ACL. Like you know what they say: “When it rains, it pours.” Earlier this year, the QB again underwent surgery, which might have ended his 2025 season before it even began.
So, with everything that’s going on in Watson’s life, there’s no one really who seems to sympathize with him. Maybe that’s why Watson is trying to find solace in GOD. Today, he shared an Instagram story of a Bible verse, Galatians 6:9, which read, “Let’s not become discouraged in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not become weary.” In the end, he also added “More Glory” on a personal note. While we don’t know what Watson probably meant with that bible verse, it’s safe to say that he hasn’t really done anything since moving to Cleveland.

Imagine a QB who was signed back in 2022 and has only played 19 games. Yes, besides his troubles on the gridiron with injuries, missing half of 2023 with a season-ending shoulder injury. Watson has been a menace even away from the gridiron. He was suspended for 11 games and was fined over $5M for s—al assault charges. Everything that could have gone wrong for Watson has gone way worse than anyone could have imagined.
Even Browns GM Andrew Berry painted a bleak picture of Watson’s future after the Browns finished 3-14, “I think the reality of it is that room will look different next year.” For sure, it will be not just the QB room. Also, the defensive side of things will look way different. Because their only beacon of hope, Myles Garrett could be heading out of Cleveland, possibly with Watson—that’s what Mike Florio believes.

Mike Florio suggests a wild idea to get Myles Garrett from Cleveland
It’s pretty clear the Browns have a lot to do before they even think about playoffs or a Super Bowl trip. So, as soon as the season ended, Myles Garrett knew what he had to do to stay competitive. And that is to steer clear of the Browns. “While I’ve loved calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won’t allow me to be complacent. The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, it has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl. With that in mind, I have requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns.” Garrett said emphatically in a statement.
See, the Browns have made it pretty clear they don’t want to trade their 6-time Pro Bowler. But their hands are tied because of none other than Deshaun Watson. That’s why Mike Florio has suggested an idea that could be great for both parties. “If you want Myles Garrett, you have to take Deshaun Watson. It would amount to an extra $92M commitment, with the new team getting Garrett and owing Watson the balance of his five-year, $230M, fully guaranteed contract.”

Look, it’s pretty unlikely anyone would like to take a disaster like Watson. But Garrett could surely entice a few out there just because of what he brings to the table. Garrett has consistently delivered from his position. Since 2018, he has notched up double-digit numbers in sacks. Even last season, Garrett tallied 14 sacks alongside a career-high 40 solo tackles.
So, even if there’s a little chance of this hypothetical situation becoming a reality. The team that gets Garrett will surely come out as a winner. Yes, they would have to keep on writing multiple cheques. But it’s probably worth it for someone who has consistently performed in a team that has consistently been a disappointment everywhere else.
