It was just the second time during Dak Prescott’s nine-year NFL career that he has missed a Thanksgiving start after suffering a hamstring injury during the Cowboys’ Week 9 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. It wasn’t clear exactly when the veteran got hurt, but he exited the contest in the fourth quarter and did not return.

Prescott’s initial diagnosis was a partial avulsion of his hamstring tendon, meaning the hamstring was partially torn off the bone. While he was originally expected to miss several weeks, later it was announced that Prescott would miss the remainder of the 2024 season. It also became clear that he needed surgery to repair it.

“He’ll have it there in New York,” owner Jerry Jones said. “He had a good visit last night and he wants to do that there, and he’s got great medical doctors up there. His prognosis is wonderful, it just means we’re not going to have him the rest of the year,” Jones had further added on 105.3 The Fan last month. Prescott went 3-5 as the starter this season and completed 64.7% of his passes for 1,978 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions. But the injury did not seem to have dampened Prescott’s spirit and he is already set on his off-season plans.

So, with this annual camp, aspiring athletes can get a chance to take lessons from Dak Prescott to bring out their A-game. And, it seems the Cowboys quarterback is equally delighted to provide training for youth athletes. As per the report, “For our consecutive offseason, Dak Prescott has been working with John Beck and the coaches at 3DQ. This training is also what led to his Dak Dance pregame routine.” However, this is not the only welfare activity Prescott is taking part in as he deals with his injury.

Prescott has a foundation called Faith Fight Finish (FFF) with which he seeks to invest in a better future for people, families, and communities in adverse situations. It was created as a tribute to his mother Peggy, who died of colon cancer in 2013, and honors his brother Jace, who committed suicide in 2020.

Through Faith Fight Finish and in partnership with DICK’S Sporting Goods, Prescott decided to benefit 30 children from St. Philip’s School, a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas, in which hundreds of children are educated in religion to be an agent of change in the community and develop human capital.

Sharing the initiative on his Instagram account, Prescott wrote: “It’s the season! The Faith Fight Finish Foundation was honored to bring 30 amazing kids from @stphilips1600 school to Dick’s Sporting Goods for an unforgettable Christmas experience.” Prescott invested $500 for each of the children at the school. But it didn’t stop there as he also ‘invited’ the famous grilled cheese sandwiches from ‘Ruthie’s For Good’.

In November, Prescott had joined Simone Biles, Chris Paul, and Quinn Ewers to participate in a festive decorating challenge with the DICK’S Sports Matter program to benefit local youth sports organizations. “It’s about creating memories, spreading joy, and supporting the next generation. Let’s keep fighting the good fight together! Merry Christmas!” Prescott said in a message. But while his offseason plans are going strong, Jerry Jones blamed him.

What went south between Jerry Jones and Dak Prescott?

Just hours before the season opener in September, Jones signed Prescott to a record-setting, four-year, $240 million contract extension with a remarkable $231 million guaranteed. This made the Cowboys passer the highest-paid player in the NFL with a $60 million average per year salary. The previous high was $55 million APY. Prescott also broke NFL records with the highest signing bonus ever ($80 million) and the most guaranteed money ever. It’s a hefty price for a quarterback with just two playoff wins in eight seasons.

Back then, despite the massive financial commitment, Jones believed the contract was worth it because it locked in a quarterback the team would go to war for every single week. Jones, who turned 82 on October 13, had also hoped that Prescott would be the Cowboys quarterback for the rest of his life, which he believes will last past the expiration of the latest deal in the 2029 offseason.

“The figure is right, and the figure is… what it means is a big commitment to next five years, to our future if you will. There’s a lot of me that thinks I hope Dak is our quarterback for the rest of my time, so that’s not just limited to the terms of this contract either,” Jones said via Yahoo Sports. “I got a lot of confidence in him. He’s got a lot of, brings so much to the table. He’s a player that the team follows. That’s big. Roger Staubach told me when I asked him, ‘Drop back or move around quarterback?’ He said, ‘I don’t know about any of that. Have someone that the team will follow.'”

But days back Jones and his son claimed that they have no cap space to make any moves in the offseason. After failing to convince Cowboys star QB, to accept a ‘team-friendly’ contract for this offseason, Cowboys owner openly blamed Prescott for this. He claimed that Dak Prescott who signed the  $240 million contract extension with the Cowboys ahead of this season, is the reason why the team has limited flexibility in this offseason.

As per a report published by SI.com, Jerry Jones, Cowboy’s general manager, disclosed the team’s limitations. “But you got a limit as to the availability of the cap (in the future) when you flip those switches. … You make your choices. It’s a different (cap) management when you got the higher-priced player at quarterback,” he stated during a discussion with The Athletic journalist. While he blamed Prescott, some fans even thought that it was just an easy way out for Jones. However, as long as his team keeps making lots of money, we cannot expect him to change his approach or mindset.
