Can Brock Purdy bounce back and lead the 49ers to a miraculous playoff run?

The 49ers are struggling. They looked like a unit before the season, but the injuries have also dented their playoff chances. The major blow happened during week 11 when Brock Purdy injured his shoulder against the Seahawks. Now, he is also feeling the pressure as their chances of qualifying for the playoffs are reducing.

He recently appeared on the PAW Patrol, where he had a PUP talk huddle with the pups Chase and Rubble. The QB admitted that the expectations of the fans coupled with the recent results have put him under some pressure. On the show, he did vent his frustration by howling. Well, this unveiled the actual picture though.

The season has been tough for them. With 5 wins and 6 losses, they are sitting in the 4th position in the NFC West. That’s not a position they anticipated and they would want to be. Even in their conference, they are in the 11th position. That doesn’t give hope of a good ending. The shoulder injury of Brock Purdy has also put their chances of having a playoff spot in danger.

In 10 games in 2024, he has a 5-5 win-loss record with 202 of 306 passes (66% completion rate) in 2,613 passing yards with 13 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. But he was resting and letting his injury heal completely. The MRI didn’t show any structural damage but sat out the week 12 game against the Packers, which they lost 10-38. 49ers HC had expressed hopes of a good game, but after the loss, his views changed.

The quarterback underwent a 2nd MRI when his shoulder pain did not stop. But there’s good news now for the Faithful. He practiced with the team and did light throwing on November 25. It has given a ray of hope to the coach and the locker room.

While talking about the injury, Kyle Shanahan said, “Yeah, he did some light throwing today and it went all good. He had, we didn’t push it that hard, but did some light throwing, which was a good sign that the pain hadn’t come back. And we’ll rest it tomorrow and see how he feels as the week goes.” That seems good.

The week 13 game against the Bills on December 1 needs all of them to be in their best form. They have a 9-2 win-loss record and are the only team to defeat the Chiefs this season. The 49ers will need all their key players to be on the gridiron.

Last year, they qualified for the Super Bowl. It’s a tough road this year. The first stage is the playoff season. They still need at least 4 wins out of the remaining 6 games. That’s not a simple task. Brock Purdy and Kyle Shanahan need to regroup and decide on their strategies.
