Travis Kelce reflects on his mentality following a slow start to the new season
The Kansas City Chiefs have started things off in style winning two consecutive games in the two starting weeks against the Baltimore Ravens (27-20) and the Cincinnati Bengals (26-25). However, Travis Kelce has had somewhat of a sluggish start. The 34-year-old tight end managed just four receptions for 39 yards in total. But it seems that the NFL star is keeping calm despite not hitting the endzone yet this season.
In the recent of his podcast “New Heights”, Kelce said, “There’s a lot of things that have to go right for anyone to get the ball. These past two games it hasn’t gone that way for me. That’s football, man. I’m not going to sit here and get frustrated. I used to get off and almost lose my cool a lot of the time from not having that success, knowing I demand that out of myself. And I just like to play the game to such a high level of accountability that it’s tough for me to deal with being mediocre or having stats that represent that.”

Furthermore, the 34-year-old added that for the past 4-5 years his attitude towards the game has changed a lot. He doesn’t think about the stats anymore and just enjoys playing with and for his team, and surely for him, that’s a better mentality. Kelce also talked about his team’s performance so far in the past two weeks. He said, “We’ve got to play better as an offense. The defense is playing their […] off. . . . I put that on me. I think it starts with the leaders”. Kelce added that one needs to go in with the right mentality. And if they don’t then that spreads into the entire team.
As the Chiefs march into Week 3 with a perfect 2-0 record, they will face the Atlanta Falcons at the Mercedez Benz Stadium on Sunday who are coming off a narrow 22-21 victory against the Philadelphia Eagles. Kelce and Co. will hope to keep their good run going and turn their record into 3-0.
