The Baltimore Ravens met several of their preseason expectations in the recently concluded NFL season. Finishing with the best overall record in the league standings, they showcased their prowess on both sides of the ball. Led by MVP-caliber performances from QB Lamar Jackson it culminated in a hard-fought appearance in the AFC Championship game.
However, despite their remarkable achievements, the Ravens fell short in their quest for Super Bowl glory, unable to overcome the formidable challenge posed by the Chiefs. And one of the big reasons for this was the offense. Could the Ravens sign a big name to extend extra support to Jackson?

According to a recent report, the Ravens are intensifying their efforts to explore potential acquisitions in the free-agent running back market for the upcoming 2024 season. As reported by NFL Insider, Jeremy Fowler, the Ravens could be looking at signing New York Giants Saquon Barkley to their team. A Ravens executive told Fowler, “Could you imagine Saquon and Lamar Jackson in the same backfield? It would be crazy.”

Barkley has been on the gridiron for 13 out of 16 games, shouldering much of the ground game for a struggling Giants offense that hasn’t provided him with ample opportunities to shine. However, he serves in a role with a well-known reputation for a limited career span. Considering this, along with Barkley’s injury track record, it appears doubtful that he’ll secure the sought-after multi-year contract from the Giants, especially following their disappointing performance in 2023.
As he’s set to hit the free agency, it’s actually unlikely that his next destination will be Baltimore.

Could the Ravens really land him?
The Ravens have approximately $18 million in cap space. Nevertheless, this figure could be increased through strategic maneuvers such as releases, trades, and contract restructuring involving key players. Saquon Barkley’s desire to secure a lucrative contract is well-known, marking a significant milestone in his NFL career. Despite the allure of a potential title run and the proximity to his hometown of New York, financial compensation is likely to hold greater precedence for the 27-year-old RB.
However, considering factors such as age and available resources, the prospect of Derrick Henry joining the Ravens in the upcoming season appears more plausible. Henry, a celebrated figure in the Tennessee Titans franchise, commanded an average salary of $12.5 million last season. Nonetheless, with the current devaluation of RBs in the market, he is anticipated to accept a substantial reduction in pay for the ensuing season.

Moreover, speculation arose during the NFL trade deadline suggesting that the Ravens were already close to acquiring the four-time Pro Bowler. If they play their cards right in managing their resources and bringing in the right players, the Ravens could really set themselves up to win the Super Bowl in 2025.
