Is Bill Belichick's snub of Patrick Mahomes a sign of bias or strategic genius?

The Mid Season is here with Week 9 underway! So far, the Kansas City Chiefs are ranked high with no losses, while the Carolina Panthers sit at the bottom with seven losses in the season. The tension of clinching a playoff berth is high, and amidst all this, the legendary head coach introduced his new team as the first half of the season is coming to an end.

In episode 9 of the “COACH” podcast, Bill Belichick joined co-hosts Matt Patricia, and Michael Lombardi to build up a mid season All-Belichick Team. Inspired by the All-Madden team, the former Patriots HC named a list of the players, which also included the captains of every team.

Talking about the offensive linemen first, Bill Belichick named quarterbacks Lamar Jackson, Jared Goff, and Patrick Mahomes. However, he ignored Mahomes despite his all-game win so far in the season. Ignored for choosing him as a captain.

Yes! Bill Belichick named Lamar Jackson as offensive captain of his team, saying, “I love the choice of Lamar Jackson. He’s got my vote which counts for something.” The reason? Well, it could be because of the quarterback rating – 115.4, as, via Sports Data, the Ravens QB is currently sitting on top in this category. On the other hand, he is 7th in the season with 2099 passing yards. While Patrick Mahomes got 84.9 QB rating, making him sit at 23rd rank.

Besides voting for Jackson, former HC Bill Belichick also named two other captains – one of defense and the other of special teams. He named linebacker Fred Warner as the defensive captain, as well as DT Dexter Lawrence too as the defensive captain. While on the other hand, Nick Bellore was chosen as the special team’s captain.

Who are others in the list of Bill Belichick’s team?

The coach is peculiar in his choices for sure! Apart from naming the above-mentioned players, Bill Belichick also revealed his entire roster of this season.
