Hold back Steelers fans. Even though Lamar Jackson and the Ravens showed the Steel City a way out of this season, things are still pretty interesting in the Steelers’ locker room. And that’s folks, as usual, their quarterback conundrum. Honestly, the wild-card round loss turned out to be a loop of issues. Russell Wilson and Justin Fields are hitting free agency. Ask the head coach to figure out something who himself is under the radar for his head coaching tenure.
Amidst all the locker room drama, the backup QB seems to getting home with some learning after their postseason exit. A few hours ago, Fields took to his Instagram handle and shared a few glimpses of his season this year. But besides his on-field action, it’s his message that grabbed the spotlight. “A year full of lessons & blessings. Thankful for it all,” Fields captioned his post.

Speaking of grabbing the spotlight, there’s no denying that Wilson managed to have an upper hand throughout the season for the Pittsburgh team. I mean, that kinda seems off for Fields given he started almost every game during his tenure with the Bears. Enter, the Steel City and Fields was declared a backup QB.
However, following Wilson’s calf injury ahead of the season opener, Fields was declared to take the helm. And sure he did. His track record? A solid 4-2 before getting benched. His on-field performance? Well, that seems kinda pretty good. With nearly 300 rushing yards in his first six starts and over 1,000 yards and 5 touchdowns throughout the season, Fields had a splendid season.
No wonder he earned praise from Mike Tomlin. “I thought the way he conducted himself makes that [starting QB] a legitimate thought or idea.” However, the head coach put that thought aside when the Veteran with a Super Bowl title against his name returned from his injury. As a matter of fact, Justin Fields’ season wrapped up with a whole list of ups and downs. So yes, Fields has wrapped up his season with a lot of lessons and, of course, blessings.

When Fields was traded to the Steelers for his final year of contract, the Pittsburgh team had a chance to pick a fifth-year option for his contract. Fields signed a rookie contract for four years worth $18.87 million. And if the Steelers would have picked a fifth-year option, he would have been paid $25.66 million for 2025. And guess what? They declined it.
As it turned out, his contract extension was now fully dependent on his regular season performance. Sure, after a solid start in the regular season, Fields might have thought of a handsome contract deal after the season wrapped. But the reality turned out to be pretty harsh on him. Following the quarterback drama in the roster, Fields season was limited to merely 10 games with 6 starts.
After losing to the Ravens in the wildcard round, Fields is set to hit the free agency. But so does Russ who had signed a one-year deal, right? But what is the rush in the Steelers’ locker room? I mean, you’ve got Wilson and Fields at the same time before the season. Does that mean you’re gonna let go of them at the same time too?

Guess the team seems to adhere to their plan as neither any official confirmation nor any rumors confirmed any contract extension for Justin Fields and Russell Wilson.
