Hatred and rivalries are part and parcel of the NFL. A fan may hate a certain team or a certain player. But a player hating on a coach is rare. And “hatred” is the apt word to describe the feelings former New York Jets linebacker Bart Scott has for New England Patriots head coach, Bill Belichick. The Jets vs. Patriots rivalry is well known. Both are in the same AFC East division and the Jets have always tried to one-up the Patriots. But Scott’s feelings stem from a personal incident that Belichick was involved in.
While appearing in an interview on Pardon My Take, he was asked a provocative question and his answer to that may, or may not surprise fans who have been following the Scott-Belichick tussle.

The co-host, Dan Katz, asked Scott if Bill Belichick was on fire, “You still wouldn’t p**s on him?”. And what did Scott say to that? “No, I’d rather let him burn.” Shots fired! The hosts further asked him that if Belichick apologized to him for how he had treated him, would he then try to save him from the fire by p*****g on him? He stood by his earlier stance and said, “No, I’d probably try to stomp the fire out.”

Earlier, Bart had already predicted that the Patriots would witness a stunning downfall when
Tom Brady eventually retired. According to him, the “Patriot Way”, was not a 50-50 Tom Brady and Bill Belichick thing, but that the Pats’ success was mostly due to the 7x Super Bowl Champion, and not their head coach. He ended his verbal attack by saying that he’s not going to let Belichick off the hook so soon and, “If we’ve got smoke, we’ve got smoke.”So where does this hatred for Belichick stem from?
Belichick once disrespected Scott
The beef between the two started when Scott had already retired from playing in the NFL and was working with CBS as an analyst on the show The NFL Today. The show was at the time covering an AFC Championship game between the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts. Other than Scott, Tony Gonzalez and Bill Cowher were also there.
Belichick walked up to Tony, shook his hand and spoke amicably to Cowher. Scott was standing just inches away from Belichick, and yet he chose to ignore him completely. During the show, the 71-year-old coach seemed to hit it off well with the other two hosts but acted as if Scott wasn’t even there. And he hasn’t forgotten the disrespect since then.
