Aaron Rodgers-less NY Jets failed to make it to the playoffs this season with 7 regular season wins. The Jets changed four starting QBs this year, including Zach Wilson, Trevor Siemian, Tim Boyle, and A-Rod himself. This was the most amount of QB used by the Jets since 1989. As the Jets’ chances of advancing to the AFC playoffs extinguish officially, one can arguably say that Rodgers’ Achilles injury massively affected the team’s offense.

But again, Rodgers’ absence also gave Wilson a chance to become the face of the Jets. However, he couldn’t earn the management’s trust and Robert Saleh benched him to see if the team could spark the offense again. Now, reports are circulating that a benched Zach Wilson will be traded before the off-season. Rodgers, on the other hand, is seemingly dedicated to stamping his name once again on the team. In a recent presser, A-Rod cheekily admitted to his 2024 Jets plan.

He first shed light on the process of rehab and training he will endure joining the off-season. A reporter then addressed the Jets’ plans this year, “We didn’t get a chance to see the plan of you being the starter this year with Zach as a backup learning.” He further asked about next season’s QB options, “Is that something you’d like to see next year?”

Rodgers addressed the first situation and replied cheekily, “I’d like to be the starter yeah.” The admission left reporters giggling. The reporter pressed, “The second part though.” A-Rod responded, “I love Zach, I want what’s best for Zach.” He pointed out that if Zach wants to be with the Jets, “Obviously would love that to have that relationship for another year.”

He gave his example to support Wilson’s situation, “Sometimes a change of scenery as I know can be a breath of fresh air.” He ended by saying that they would still be connected and see what happens.

Zach Wilson’s stay with the Jets ended rather abruptly

Wilson was in contention to take over as the starting QB in two or three years till Rodger played. He would have had ample time to learn the tricks well from the greats of the game. The Jets somehow managed to start the season 4-6 despite losing Rodgers early. Wilson had an opportunity of a lifetime but ended up getting benched for the second year in a row.

Wilson’s 30.2 QBR became the worst in the NFL. In his 11 appearances, the young sensation managed eight TDs and was intercepted 7 times. Post-benching, the Jets reportedly told him that he would be traded before the offseason. But again, there is still hope. We can say that his best chances could be the Cardinals and the Vikings as part of a second chance to redeem himself. What other teams would be ready to take Zach Wilson after below-par performances?
