“Man 14 Gotta get up outta there,” is what Trevon Diggs said about his brother Stefon Diggs when the Buffalo Bills lost to the Denver Broncos last year. The game brought out some aspects of Josh Allen and his WR’s turbulent relationship on and off the field. While Diggs believed that he wasn’t getting enough targets from the Bills’ QB, Josh Allen tried to keep it cool and alleviate the whole situation.
Fast forward to April 2024, Stefon Diggs gets traded to Houston Texans for a 2025 second-round pick. In the process, the Bills also gave away the 2024 sixth-round pick and 2025 fifth-round pick to the Houston team. The move has left the Bills with $31.09 million in dead cap for the next year. Yet, stalwart journalist Ian Rapoport had a few things to say in favor of the Bills’ decision concerning the WR.

The reporter acknowledged the fact that the trade had been long overdue. Per Ian Rapoport, the Bills tried to make things work by trying to get things sorted out between Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs. However, with things not falling on the same page, the ESPN reporter pointed out how this was the Bills’ decision to utilize their salary cap in a “wise way.” Rapoport then highlighted the Bills’ GM Brandon Beane’s stance on the trade.

At some point, the Bills GM mentioned that the trade was done to free up some cap space in order to strengthen the team for the future. “I think we all know what we walked into this year, this league year, with the salary cap and where we were. And while, yes, we’ll eat a little bit this year, it frees over $27 million off of our cap and gives us some more flexibility in the future,” mentioned the GM.
This also reflects the decision of the Bills to try and take the hit at the current moment, trying to sort out matters before they got out of hand. However, per sources, the Houston Texans were well aware of the turmoil Stefon Diggs was in after his unproductive season with the Bills and decided to make the most out of this opportunity.

In another instance of the same show, Brian Baldinger tried to break down Houston’s point of view regarding the trade. The gist of Baldinger’s assessment was that CJ Stroud has a veteran offense around him and Diggs would make a great addition to the arsenal. The analyst also believed that we would not “see an outburst like that in Houston.”

In Houston’s scheme of things, it’s more about CJ Stroud executing the plays and scoring rather than receivers being targeted less and regretting about it later. “CJ Stroud, I think is large and in charge at a very young age and I think all those parameters said bring it on. We’ll take it, and we’ll take the talent, and we’ll get the best out of him,” said Baldinger praising Stroud.

Whether his assessment will come true in the future cannot be said right now. But the Diggs brothers will be playing in the same state so they will be closer than ever as each other’s rivals on the gridiron.
