You might know Randi Mahomes as the proud mom of the Chiefs’ superstar Patrick Mahomes, but there’s a lot more to her than just being the QB’s mother. In an episode of The Mom Game Podcast, Randi dropped a truth bomb about life and divorce—her words as powerful as her son’s arm.

“I would never depend on a man or anyone again,” said the Mahomes’ mama, keeping it real about the challenges she tackled raising her kids after divorce from Pat Mahomes Sr. Eighteen years ago, she split up with the former MLB pitcher, whose career spanned big teams like the Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins. Even though the separation was tough, she knew she had to stay strong for her kids.

When the podcast hostess dug into how she managed to keep her stuff rocking and not just revolve around Patrick and his fam, Randi summed it up perfectly: “It was instilled from a young age to support myself, and then after my divorce, it subconsciously got stronger. I think it went down to my kids being independent as well. I’m raising a daughter and I want her to know that she can do it by herself and not depend on any man.”

Randi Mahomes’ words are miles away from that cliché of a woman who just ‘married up’ and lived a life of luxury. The 51-year-old was a single mum juggling two jobs to make ends meet, a far cry from the glamorous lifestyle often associated with pro athletes’ families. But Randi never dodged the truth with her sons, Patrick and Jackson, and daughter. “I was always honest with all of my kids, especially my daughter,” she said, stressing the value of honesty and learning from mistakes.
