October 22 looks like a very significant date for a lot of people. People have rallied behind making it a symbolic day for various reasons. For the NFL, October 22 marks the National Tight End Day. That wasn’t enough for Jason Kelce and his brother Travis Kelce, and they decided to take the matter into their own hands.
The conversation took a turn from reminiscing about Halloween and stealing candies to making October 22 all about Jason’s. After all, people are marking the date with whatever they like to celebrate. Did you know that people submit patents for a holiday they come up with?

Jason mentioned how apart from being a National Tight End Day, October 22 also marks National Nut Day, International Caps Lock Day, National Anna Day, National Diego Day, and National Make a Dog’s Day. The obnoxious patents made Jason and Travis Kelce come up with their own. “You don’t get to make days, days,” said Kelce responding to people. However, after listening to Jason’s rant, Travis Kelce had an idea of his own.
He suggested that there should be a ‘National Jason’s Day’ or a ‘National Center’s Day,’ which his brother didn’t take lightly. Jason says, “I will boycott the day.” Why? It’s simple, really; he would take a ‘National New Heights Day’ rather than a ‘National Jason’s Day’. Well, safe to say that Jason Kelce is a selfless man. But here comes the twist: National New Heights Day is going to be on February 30.
‘Leap years, midnight only,’ said Kelce, pulling his brother’s leg. For now, in the NFL’s context, October 22only makes a National Tight End Day. What is the National TE Day about?
The National Tight End Day
The occasion was marked back in the 2018 regular season when the San Francisco 49ers went against the Detroit Lions. George Kittle went up and down the field, spreading the words ‘It’s National Tight End Day” to his teammates. It wasn’t later till 2019 that the NFL would decide to mark it as a special day for Tight Ends across the league. The day celebrates the Tight Ends, who have received a Hall of Fame Golden Jacket made by Haggar Clothing Co.
Some of the most famous TEs in the league are Dave Casper, Mike Ditka, John Mackey, Ozzie Newsome, Charlie Sanders, and of course, Shannon Sharpe, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame Class of 2011. The NFL isn’t shy of celebrating and owning the day either, as every year, they make posts commemorating the best TEs in the league. They even did a commercial with the current best TEs in the league, with George Kittle in focus.
