While fans yearn to know more about the Kansas City Chiefs’ 25-22 comeback win against the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl, CNN’s Abby Phillip decided to go down a different route with the MVP, Patrick Mahomes. In a wild turn of events, the quarterback found himself facing questions about conspiracy theories related to Taylor Swift and the POTUS Joe Biden.

Where the audience was expecting a conversation about the Super Bowl play, Chiefs celebration, and Mahomes’ future plans, it was indeed surprising to see Phillip’s line of questioning. The quarterback tried to maintain a neutral front, shifting the focus back to football.

CNN host Abby Phillip mentioned the wild conspiracy theories that had caught the attention of President Biden. Curious to gauge Mahomes’ thoughts on the magnitude to which the joke has “spiraled,” Phillip posed the question expecting a remark but was greeted with a neutral reply from the star quarterback. The interview was met with outrage on most social media and was criticized heavily. One such tweet by NFL news account, Dov Kleiman, labeled the question as “embarrassing.”

The quarterback had a cool response to the question, swerving away from the speculations. He said that he chooses to stay away from online conversations, instead focusing his energy on the sport and his family.

“Yeah, it’s been wild to see. I mean, I try to focus in on football as much as possible but there’s always some conspiracy theories out there. I just try to enjoy football and my family. I try to stay off social media as much as possible.”

Phillip referred to the conspiracy theories surrounding the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVIII win on Sunday and Taylor Swift’s involvement in the whole affair. The theory which made its way to the White House, claims that the game was “scripted” due to Taylor’s associations with President Biden and her relationship with Kansas’ tight end Travis Kelce. The tin-foil hats believe that the popstar may have pulled some strings to further her influence and President Biden’s political agenda through the Chiefs’ Super Bowl triumph.

Taylor has been an active advocate for most progressive causes, including but not limited to racial equality, feminism, and LGBTQIA+ rights. This vocal support and her remarks against Trump have left many conservatives with a bad taste in their mouth for the icon, which led to such unsubstantiated rumors on the internet. Taylor’s relationship with Kelce and her support for Biden’s candidature during the elections are the pillars on which the theorists rest their flimsy case.

President Biden finally decided to partake in the internet brawl and furthered the joke by indicating his knowledge of the same. As with most things on the internet, this little joke bounced around multiple major avenues from pop culture to politics and eventually snuck into Mahomes’ interview in the form of a peculiar and mistimed question.
