Does Aaron Rodgers' honesty about his screw-up make you respect him more or question his abilities?

The New York Jets managed a 24-17 win over the Tennessee Titans today, despite getting off to a somewhat shaky start in the first quarter. The win has put the wind back in their sails after a Week 1 defeat to the San Francisco 49ers. They regained their foothold in the 2nd quarter, somewhat, but the first half still ended with Tennessee leading 10-7. The Jets really started to get their act together in the 3rd quarter.

Speaking to the press post-match, Rogers broke down the Breece Hall play in particular, “I screwed up the clock and we called a timeout. And Breece comes over and goes, ‘Hey throw me a go ball if there’s a backer out there.’ .. and that’s basically how it went.” The Hall touchdown in the 3rd quarter put the Jets in the lead for the first time, and they managed to take things home from there, though not easily.

Analyzing for CBS, Charles Davis pointed out that Rodgers’ shift to a quick-release style of play helped turn things around. Aaron Rodgers was struggling to get the ball out there in the first quarter, hesitating just long enough for the defense to close in and cut off any opportunities to advance. As Davis points out, Rodgers “started getting it out of his hands in 2.5 seconds or less.” Davis goes on to say the receivers had a big part to play in allowing Rodgers to be successful.

Breece Hall was only one half of the equation. The lauded Braelon Allen, the youngest NFL player, scored 2 touchdowns too, impressing with his performance. Despite the shaky start, the Jets really came together in the second half, and leveled off to a 1-1 record.

The New England Patriots will also be coming onto the field with a 1-1 record as they face the Jets later this week. After a convincing 16-10 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, they suffered a narrow 20-23 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. It was a tight game, tied 20-20 at the close of the 4th quarter, till Jason Myers’ field goal in overtime tipped the scales in the Seahawks’ favor.

Have an interesting take?

Both the New England Patriots and the New York Jets will be taking each other very seriously. Though their last game ended with the Jets triumphing by a whopping 17-3 margin, the result is an outlier. Before that match, the Patriots had beaten the Jets an incredible 15 games in a row, going back to 2016. Will the Jets manage a second consecutive win against the Patriots? Or will the Patriots hammer the Jets back into the old status quo? You’ll have to tune in on Thursday to find out.
