Jerry Jones didn’t have a great time watching his Cowboys get dismantled by the Lions on his 82nd birthday in Dallas. Having expected a turnaround every week from their three straight losses at home, the Cowboys extended their unwanted streak as the Lions ran away with a 47-9 victory to Detroit. This led to Jones having a meltdown on 105.3 The Fan when he was asked some hard-hitting questions about not showing enough aggression in the offseason, “This is not your job. Your job isn’t to let me go over all the reasons that I did something, and I’m sorry that I did it. That’s not your job. I’ll get somebody else to ask these questions. I’m not kidding.” Yes, the Cowboys GM was so angry that he even threatened to sack the radio host for those questions.
But since that explosive interview that got the NFL’s attention in Dallas, their defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer did own up to his mistakes, “I probably panicked on some calls early. When we’ve been bad, it just steamrolls.” Seeing them give up more than 167 points in the last four games at home, Zimmer taking responsibility doesn’t really surprise anyone.

And it’s not the only stat they are struggling with this season, as the Cowboys are allowing 213 passing yards per game. This is not something expected of a team that is looking to make the playoffs. Well, their rushing yards department isn’t good either, with the Cowboys averaging 143.2 per game. Looking at this record, America’s team finds itself in the company of the Rams, Cardinals and Panthers, which are the only teams giving up more than 143 rushing yards.
It’s not really a good company to have, considering the season each of those teams is having 1-4, 2-4, and 1-5 respectively. This bye week for the Cowboys couldn’t have come at the right time. As they might get Micah Parsons back from his ankle injury before the clash against the 49ers. Even CB DaRon Bland could return, thereby helping the Cowboys sort out their defensive woes under Zimmer.

Is Jerry Jones' patience with the Cowboys' defense finally running out after this embarrassing loss?
Have an interesting take?
The Cowboys didn’t score a single TD in Dallas, which is something that is not expected of a Super Bowl-chasing team. Looking back at their six games in the NFL, the Cowboys have only scored two TDs during the first quarter. This means the team has only been ahead two times for 15 minutes, which sums up their offense this season. Even their rushing TDs are struggling mightily, as they have only scored two, while one of them came from Dak Prescott himself.
Their running backs, Rico Dowdle and Ezekiel Elliot are having a shocking season, as the duo has averaged only 77.1 rushing yards per game. Apart from their struggles, both Prescott and CeeDee Lamb have failed to live up to their expectations this season. Both of them have only combined for 467 receiving yards, thereby summing up their offensive woes after six games. Lamb, who signed a $136 million deal this season, had a 74.6% completion on his catches last season.
But right now, it looks like both Dallas’ offense and defense need some urgent change. Otherwise, their season could well and truly get over, considering there is little improvement in each front.
